Learn strategy in 2023!

All that is required to enroll is a sincere desire to learn, athletic clothing, and a four-foot stick.

To learn strategy, you must go beyond the intellectual and apply it. You must get your hands dirty!

This online course will explore strategy through the vehicle of Japanese swordsmanship. The practice of forms exemplifying a particular strategy will help you realize its essence. Then, you may apply it at will.

Join us as we explore the strategies outlined in The Way and The Power: Secrets of Japanese Strategy by F.J. Lovret. (Available through Amazon or your favorite bookstore.)

Each week during 2023, we will explore a new strategy. Participants are welcome to join at any time during the year.

In three decades of studying the swordsmanship of the Ittō Tenshin-ryū®, here is one of the most important lessons I have learned.

Awakening the incredible innate wisdom and intelligence of the human condition to address conflict requires the totality of who we are—body, breath, mind, and spirit.

This awakening is accomplished through rigorous practice, exposing oneself to conditions that will challenge the depths of who we believe we are.

The reward--To be of service and the joy inherent in mattering.

To live; lived!

Join us on the 5th and 6th of November, 2022, to experience the powerful teachings of the Ittō Tenshin-ryū.

THIS IS GOING TO BE A GOOD ONE!

The Great Falls Budōkan is pleased to host the 2022 Ittō Tenshin-ryū® Kenjutsu Taikai over the weekend of November the 5th and 6th, 2022. This year's theme will focus on the journey of a disciple of the tradition, including where they should place their attention during each stage of their training.

The instructor for the event will be Mr. Arvind Rajguru, Headmaster of the Ittō Tenshin-ryū, Menkyo Kaiden Yamate-ryu® Aikijutsu and Goseki-ryū® Aiki Heihō.

While this is important to a deshi of the Ryū, anyone interested in the Japanese way of the sword will draw great value from the event. While the cultural context in which these fighting traditions developed no longer exists, teachings to address conflict and strategy are as relevant today as they were at their inception. Principles for human performance and spiritual development are timeless.

Intensive training evolutions to develop and test the human spirit are a part of our martial traditions. When held in the winter they are called “kangeiko.” When held in the summer, “shochūgeiko.”

It is not necessary to be a member of our traditions to attend. While those interested in Japanese martial arts including kenjutsu and aikijujutsu may be particularly suited, no previous experience is required.

Please note this is an intensive training evolution and participants should anticipate strenuous physical and mental exercise accentuated by sleep deprivation and calorie restriction.

GET READY!

Messrs. Rick Ritacco (Gorin no Dōjō, Woodbridge, Illinois) and Amos Smith (Kodama Dōjō, Madison, Wisconsin) engage in a naginata technique from the Ittō Tenshin-ryū®. (c. 2005)

While the study of the naginata represents a small portion of the Ittō Tenshin-ryū curriculum, its value should not be overlooked.
