An integral part of the UMD men's hockey first NCAA Frozen Four runs, Mark Odnokon, passed away Sunday from a brief battle of cancer. He was 63 years old.

Odnokon, a two-year captain, played for the Bulldogs from 1982-1986. In 164 games as a Bulldog, Odnokon recorded 119 points on 39 goals and 80 assists -- which still ranks as the 41st most career points in program history. The lone team captain as a senior for the 1985-86 season, Odnokon was also an alternate captain as a junior for the 1984-85 season, and was a member of UMD's back-to-back Western Collegiate Hockey Association title teams in 1983-84 and 1984-85. He was also a member of the NCAA Tournament teams in 1983, 1984 and 1985, and notably a part of the four-overtime national championship game -- the game that arguably but Bulldog hockey on the map -- that UMD finished national runner-up.

Our thoughts are with the Odnokon family. Forever a captain. Forever a Bulldog.

Our thoughts are with the Odnokon family. Forever a captain. Forever a Bulldog.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of lifelong Raider Mark Odnokon.

Mark has been a stick boy, a player, a coach and a skills coach for our organization for pretty much the entirety of his life. He lived and breathed Raiders. He was a great mentor to the players and a safe place, and we will miss him.

We extend our condolences to Mark’s family and friends.

In just his second season of collegiate hockey, UMD sophomore men's hockey forward Max Plante has been named the 2026 USA Hockey's Jim Johannson College Player of the Year.

The 2026 Hobey Baker winner is just the fifth Bulldog player in program history to pick up the award and the first since Scott Perunovich earned it after the 2019-20 season. Max isn't the first Plante to win the award -- his father Derek Plante was UMD's first-ever recipient in 1992-93
