Northern Exposure Hockey Tournament

Northern Exposure Hockey Tournament The Northern Exposure is Minnesota's premier AAA summer hockey tournament. Taking place in beautiful Duluth, MN 2025 marks the 19th annual tournament.

Your tournament committee has 20 years of experience operating AAA Hockey tournaments. Our mission has been to provide a great on-ice and off-ice experience for all players and their families. We fully understand the large commitment coming from your end with time constraints, travel and other expenses. With that said, we are striving to provide a quality product by attaining higher end AAA progra

Finally we want to make your stat an enjoyable one with reasonable game-times and locations, hassle-free registration (please see registration page), quality hotels and availability to enjoy your wonderful northland at peak season. Hello!

My name is Matt Weis and I couldn't be more excited to take on a new endeavor in the Northern Exposure Hockey Tournament! Kasey has been a steward of this event for 20 years and my family and I are honored to be the next ones to continue it on.

I am currently the Tournament Director for the Fargo Youth Hockey Association and have hosted various levels of tournaments in Fargo for the last five years. Our most notable event would be the Sq**rt International tournaments, where we host 256 teams over 4 weekends.

Our goal for this event going forward is to continue the competitive, fun, and memorable Duluth tournament, as well as add a tournament in Fargo. There will be some updates coming to the tournament including a new tournament website(launching soon), updated branding, and adding Gamesheet scoring to the mix.

The dates for both events for 2027 have been confirmed and are as follows:

Fargo, ND: April 9-11, 2027
Duluth, MN: July 16-18, 2027

A discount will be offered for registering for both tournaments as well!

If you would like to be added to the registration list for one or both events, please let me know!

We look forward to hosting your teams in our future NX Tournaments!

I can be reached at [email protected].

Thank you!

Hello All,

On behalf of the Northern Exposure Hockey Tournament, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for being part of our 20th Annual tournament this summer. Reaching this milestone is incredibly meaningful, and it would not have been possible without your continued support, participation, and passion for the game.

When we founded the Northern Exposure Hockey Tournament 20 years ago, the vision was simple: create a competitive, fun, and memorable experience for teams to come to Duluth and enjoy everything the city has to offer on and off the ice. Over the years, that vision has grown beyond anything I could have imagined. We have been fortunate to host teams from 24 different states and two countries, building lasting relationships and unforgettable memories along the way.

I would especially like to recognize and thank the organizations that have participated in the tournament each of the 20 years. Your loyalty and commitment have been the foundation of what this event has become, and I am truly grateful for your continued support.

Additionally, the tournament would not be possible without the arenas, referees, EMT’s, scorers, and apparel team. To each of you, thank you.

As we celebrate this milestone, I also want to share that this year marks a personal transition for me. After 20 incredible years, I will be passing the torch to Matt Weis, who will be taking over the Northern Exposure Tournament moving forward. While it’s not easy to step away from something that has meant so much to me, I do so with complete confidence that Matt will do an outstanding job carrying on the tradition and continuing to grow the tournament into the future.

Matt will be reaching out to all of you soon with details regarding next summer’s tournament dates, so please keep an eye out for that communication.

Thank you again for being such an important part of the Northern Exposure Hockey Tournament over the past two decades. It has truly been an honor to host you, your teams and their families and be part of your hockey journeys.

Wishing you all continued success on and off the ice.

Sincerely,
Kasey Yoder
Founder, Northern Exposure Hockey Tournament
