Historic day for the Lake Effect at Grandma's Marathon! The club marathon king John Curley took his turn to lead the pack today with a blistering 2:22:16 for 37th place. The pack up front was strong as Munir Isahak and Mark Laughlin finished close behind in 2:23:37 and 2:23:47 respectively. Munir unleashed his impressive performance in his marathon debut and Mark lowered his PR and cemented his title as the fastest Lake Effect dad! Danny Docherty came through in 2:25:33 for 49th overall and Tom Sederquist was able to hang on to a 2:28:41 to put five Sturgeons under 2:30! But the depth didn't stop there! Leo Smith 2:31, Kieran Johnson 2:37, Nick Thomas 2:38 made it eight Lake Effect runners under 2:40! And Kendall Hill finished just outside of that with an impressive 2:45. Andy Radzak and Evan Odean ran solid races just over 3 hours at 3:05 and 3:08. And Kevin Hufziger rounded out the Lake Effect squad in a solid 4:22 - a 17 minute PR - after racing the 5k on Friday! Julie Sybrant represented the club for the ladies wearing the lake effect blue in the marathon!

In the Half Marathon, Derrick Moe, David Collins, and Ralph Fiskness wore the Sturgeon jerseys for the men. David Collins running the race after recently becoming a father to twin boys!! Lake Effect also had Emily Andersen and Lis Hanson run strong for the women!

Double header at the Fargo Marathon weekend for Lake Effect!

secured the first win in the 10k running 33:14, secured second place in the final quarter mile to make it a 1-2 day for the Sturgeons! In addition, finished in 12th with 48:54, despite the heat and humidity making it a challenging day.

In the half marathon, Lake Effect stunned the field going 1,2,3,4!doc led the half marathon crew, winning the race in 1:08:20
followed in 2nd with 1:08:43
John in 3rd with 1:09:20
in 4th with 1:09:28
Leo rounded up the crew in 11th place with 1:13:43. The squad is shaping up for Grandma's full Marathon in 3 weeks!

Winning weekend for the Lake Effect crew🐟

stormed to victory in Brainerd, MN and won the Run for the Lakes half marathon in 1:09:44, recording his second win of 2026!

While right across the border in Wisconsin .doc won the Eau Claire Marathon weekend 5k in 15:23 and half marathon in 1:07:14, securing a course record in the process!

Great showing for John and danny as they gear up for the racing season.

On a beautiful morning for running, Lake Effect took to the roads with their best performance at the Get in Gear to date! The Sturgeons placed their entire top 5 in the top 10 overall. .doc led the way for the team today in a blistering 30:38 for 2nd place overall. Following Danny, clocked an impressive 31:19 for 3rd place overall. easily defended his place as the fastest Lake Effect dad running 31:31 for 5th overall. was close on his heels with a 31:40 for 7th place overall. Rounding out the top 5 for the Sturgeons, came through in 32:01 for 10th overall. Lake Effect had depth to spare in this one with finishing in 32:34 for 15th overall and Nick Thomas going 33:54 for 32nd overall. Rounding out the Lake Effect squad for today were and Leo Smith who were able to finish top 50 in just over 34 minutes on their journey back to fitness for Grandma's Marathon! Overall a fantastic showing for the Sturgeons! Next up, Brian Kraft where the team's 5K speed will be put to the test!!

The 2026 MN Club Circuit is set to begin this Saturday with the Get in Gear 10k at Minnehaha Falls Park. Lake Effect is planning to send the biggest team they've ever had for Minnesota's annual rite of spring this year!

This year watch out for who will look to build on his momentum after leading perhaps the best Lake Effect squad to date at the XC National Champs in January. .doc is making his Lake Effect road racing debut! Curley has already had a big spring and will likely be in the mix with the leaders in this one. is coming off an outstanding 15:12 Fitgers 5k which he ran on a windy cold day in Duluth. has also had a great start to the spring running a solid Half Marathon PR in Oregon. And should never be overlooked! The reigning "fastest lake effect dad" is also simply one of the fastest runners on the team and he is in good marathon shape preparing for the 50th running of Grandma's this year. He and the newly minted father will likely be duking it out for that coveted top dad spot! will be running his first race of the season and will look to use this one in his build to his first marathon attempt in June. Nick Thomas has historically run well at the Get in Gear and will also be in the mix. Leo Smith will be using this race to build back after a tough injury. He is an exciting talent who will likely make a big impact down the stretch for the team! Hayden O'Connor will also be working back from an injury, but could still put up a solid performance! is getting things started for the Lake Effect in 2026! So far he's been 🔥 and shows no sign of slowing down! After a 19th place finish at the Mesa Half (1:07:43) earlier in February he crushed the 10K for a big win at the Hot Dash in Minneapolis over the weekend! John's time (31:54) gave him the victory by over 30 seconds! also put down a great race at the Mesa Marathon 10K with a 52nd place finish! Congrats Curleys! Lake Effect is now looking forward to the Fitgers 5k as a tune up before the first circuit race of the season (Get in Gear 10K).

Club cross country nationals: the crew had a great day in Tallahassee, racing on the challenging world xc championship 10k course.
led the way for the team with 32:57, .doc followed in 33:03 on his first race with the team! in 33:19, in 33:28, Noah in 36:06, in 37:38 and .gee.733 rounded out the team in 42:01. Great showing from the sturgeons to finish 11th as a team out of 22 teams!

Indy Monumental Marathon:
Leo Smith hit the streets of Indianapolis for 26.2miles. With amazing temps and perfect race he crossed the finish line in 2:26:43. A great performance and a new personal best in the event.
This time puts him third on the team’s All Time List, only behind 20:20:59 and 2:25:28. Congratulations Leo!!!

A special day for the Sturgeons as they took to the XC course poised to complete their first season running a full mens team at every MN Club Circuit race. The Sturgeons didn't disappoint today. It was who took his turn leading the team - an appropriate exclamation point on a fantastic season for him. Evan finished 4th overall! proved you can't count him out on an XC course coming close behind in 6th place overall. and Kendall Hill didn't let anyone break up the chain of sturgeons in the top 10 crossing the finish line in 7th and 8th respectively. And charged down the final hill to round out the team with a 17th place finish.
