At Dublin Cyclery, some people become part of the shop’s story in a way that stays with you. David Maita is one of those people. Many of you watched him grow up right here — he walked through our doors in 2006 at just 15 years old and spent the next decade working full‑time, becoming one of the most trusted, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind faces our customers knew.
David had a gift for remembering customers’ names and helping families choose the right bikes — from kids getting their very first bike to seniors discovering the freedom of electric bikes. He kept the shop running smoothly behind the scenes too, supporting inventory, ordering, and making sure the right products were always on the floor. Even after 2016, he never really left. He kept showing up every Sunday for another six years because this place, and all of you, were part of his life.
Over the years, David didn’t just support cyclists — he pushed himself on the bike too. He completed the Death Ride seven times, conquering all five mountain passes each time. That grit, that quiet determination, was exactly what customers loved about him.
Even after he moved on to a new career, the questions kept coming: “How’s David doing?” “Where is he now?” “Tell him we say hi.” That’s the kind of impact he made.
Today, David’s biggest rides aren’t the Death Rides he conquered — they’re the everyday ones. Bike‑commuting to work, picking up his two kiddos, George (5) and Eleanor (1), and being the kind of dad people admire just as much as they admired the senior sales associate and friend he was here.
Happy Father’s Day to David, and to every dad in our Dublin Cyclery community who shows up with heart, strength, and love — on and off the bike.
