A great medal haul by our foil girls at the WFencing RYC/RJCC this weekend. Elise finished 7th in Y10, Megan double medaled with bronze in Junior and 5th in Y14, and Sienna TRIPLE medaled with bronze in Y14, silver in Cadet, and GOLD in Y12. Amazing work girls!

We had a fantastic weekend of fencing and fun at the ESCRIME D'HALLOWEEN RYC/RJC & DV2ROC in Twinsburg, Ohio. Over 30 fencers from Columbus Fencing & Fitness proudly represented our club, with many bringing home medals for their 'Top 8' finishes, and all earning regional points for the 2024-25 season!

A big thank you to Coach Sara Kass and Cyrano's Place for hosting this exciting tournament. We also want to express our gratitude to our coaches, parents, grandparents, and chaperones for their invaluable support. And to all our 🤺 fencers🤺 who competed - CONGRATULATIONS🎉 - we are proud of each and every one of you!

Just a few of many highlights from the weekend:
~ First Regional tournament experiences for our young foil fencers Henry Schiebel and Max Nichols who gave it their all, scoring touches in their pool bouts and Max advanced through his first DE!
~ DOUBLE BRONZE medal day for both Megan Lichtensteiger (Foil) and Sahana Muthappan (Sabre) for each of their strong performances in their respective Y14 and DV2 events!
~ Our very own Lucas Chen and Owen Buckley faced each other in the Y14 Men's Sabre final, taking the GOLD and SILVER respectively
~ Justice Cullivan and Matthew Palma refereed countless bouts

🎉 Huge shoutout to our CF&F Foil and Sabre squads for their incredible performance at the Motor City RYC/RJCC this past weekend! Not only did they bring home a slew of medals, but they also demonstrated the hard work, dedication, and camaraderie that truly define our teams. While not everyone snagged bling, the growth and passion displayed by all participants were inspiring. Let’s keep that momentum going as we gear up for the upcoming tournaments and push through the season strong!

Congratulations to Nathan for his double medal performance at the Windy City SYC/RCC! 5th in Y14 and silver in Cadet.

And great job by the Cullivan sisters too. Sienna added another medal to her collection by finishing 8th in Y12 and Elise added to her National Points tally by finishing 10th in Y10.

This weekend the foil crew will be in Detroit for the Motor City RYC/RJCC!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our officials crew who made our first Adult Combined Mixed Saber tournament a success! 🙌

Sahana Muthappan - A huge shoutout to Sahana, who took the initiative to study 196-page USA Fencing Rule Book and passed an Online Exam just the night before the tournament! Demonstrating confidence throughout the tournament, Sahana refereed the Gold Medal bout! Your dedication and hard work truly paid off!

Inès Dehon - We're so proud of Inès, who came to the club without a parent for the first time, right after passing her state driving test and getting her Ohio driver's license! What an achievement, and thank you for being part of our event!

Terry Amrine - A BIG thank you to Terry, who brought his wealth of refing experience and armorer's skills to the table. Your expertise helped us run a smooth and successful tournament!

On Saturday, August 10th, our club proudly hosted the very first Adult Combined Mixed Saber tournament in Region II, and possibly even in the United States! 🇺🇸 This groundbreaking event brought together 13 saber fencers, ranging in age from 20 to 73!

We were excited to see six of these fencers compete for the very first time. The energy and camaraderie in the room were great, and most importantly, everyone had a fantastic time!

This tournament also served as a special fundraiser for our dear friend and Columbus Fencing & Fitness Alum, Denison University Women's Fencing Head Coach, Mr. Peter Grandbois. This October, Peter will be heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to represent Team USA at the 2024 Veteran's World Championships (Vet 60 Men’s Foil). 🇺🇸🤺

A huge congratulations to all the medalists and competitors for making this event a success! 🎉👏

USA Fencing National Championships & July Challenge (Summer Nationals) Highlights

Shout out to MATTHEW PALMA who not only fenced in multiple events, but also contributed throughout Summer Nationals as a referee. Being a ref is a tough gig of intense moments, where one faces both criticism and praise. We heard Matthew executed flawlessly, ultimately earning him the honor of refereeing the Div II Men’s Foil gold medal bout! Nice job Matt!
