Goal Setting

There are both short-term goals and long-term goals. The key is that your goals must be desirable enough to motivate you to take action.

Goals we choose are not always healthy or moral. The truth is that moral goals will always produce better long-term outcomes. The more moral your goals are the higher hope you will experience.

Hopeful people learn how to “re-goal” or adjust their goals when they come up against unachievable goals. They adapt, making slight changes in their goals, to then successfully achieve modified goals.

Hopeful people are better at self-regulating their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors as they pursue their goals in life.

Coaching Hope

Mental Health then Ball

Trauma, Adversity, and the Challenges of Life

Trauma, the bad things we endure, negatively impacts our level of hope. Untreated and unaddressed trauma can cause long-term damage mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Here is the best definition of trauma to use going forward toward hope.

Trauma results from an event, series of events, or set of circumstances that are experienced by an individual as physically and emotionally harmful or threatening.

While there are many ways to define trauma, most definitions come close to this and focus on situations where someone has no control over what is happening to them or those around them.

The good news though is that rising hope reduces (softens) the impacts of these types of traumatic experiences. But we must learn how to talk about the bad stuff and then engage in physical and mental efforts that help us release trauma from our body. If trauma is part of your story, practice telling it to someone you trust.

“Sports can act as a powerful catalyst for change!”

Being a central part of coaching, mentoring, and equipping incarcerated men with the mindset and tools to prepare them for the future while making California communities safer inside and outside of prison has arguably been one of the most impactful and humbling experiences in my lifetime.

All glory to God for His grace and mercy.

The Golden State Warriors, in collaboration with the Twinning Project and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), have launched a six-week basketball program aimed at decreasing recidivism rates and enhancing the readiness of incarcerated individuals for life post-release...

Representing PCA in Chicago. I admire and applaud Chicago native, Curtis Granderson who returned home to pour into the community that poured into him as a youth.

By Joey Gelman For the first time since before the pandemic, the Chicago Public League (CPL) happily welcomed back high school head coaches in person for the annual pre-season head coaches meetings…

As a youth sports and parenting coach, I understand the significant role I play in the lives of young athletes. It goes beyond teaching skills and tactics on the field; it extends to supporting their overall well-being, including mental health. In today's fast-paced and competitive sports culture, athletes face unique challenges that can impact their emotional well-being. As a coach, it is crucial to recognize the importance of mental health and create a positive environment where athletes feel supported and understood.
