A quick heads up for our dance families 🤍

The studio will be closed Saturday, September 5 and Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. Regular classes resume Tuesday, September 8.

Enjoy the long weekend, rest those dancing feet, and we will see everyone back in the studio on Tuesday.

A few weeks in and the studio is alive. 🩰

The barres are full, the little ones have found their spots on the floor, and our older dancers are already deep into fall technique. It is one of our favorite times of year.

Here is the good news for anyone still on the fence: it is not too late. We welcome new students throughout the fall, and our free trial week lets your dancer try a class before you commit to anything.

We accept students with or without previous training, and our class sizes stay small so every dancer gets real attention.

Ever had your dancer come home talking about their tendus and just… nodded along? 😅

Here's your cheat sheet:

🩰 Plié (plee-AY) — "to bend." The first thing in every class and the foundation of every jump.
🩰 Tendu (tahn-DEW) — "to stretch." Pointing the foot along the floor. Sounds simple, takes years.
🩰 Relevé (ruh-luh-VAY) — "to rise." Lifting onto the balls of the feet.
🩰 Chassé (sha-SAY) — "to chase." One foot chases the other — this is the one they'll do down your hallway. 🏃‍♀️
🩰 Port de bras — "carriage of the arms." Why dancers' arms look like that.
🩰 Reverence — the bow at the end of class, a thank-you to the teacher and the accompanist. It's our favorite tradition.

Every one of these is French, and every one of them is over 300 years old. When your dancer learns them, they're joining a very long line of people who learned the exact same words.

Primary 1 Ballet — building proper alignment, positions and barre work
Primary 2 Ballet — expanding vocabulary and adding complexity to center work Primary 3 Ballet — refining technique and preparing for Academy-level training Primary Tap & Jazz Combo — two styles, one class, and a whole lot of rhythm 🎶

Most parents come to us for dance. What surprises them is everything else. 🤍

1. Punctuality. Class starts when class starts. Dancers learn fast that being on time is a form of respect.

2. Receiving feedback. A correction isn't criticism — it's attention. Learning to hear "try that again" and actually try again is a life skill.

3. Persistence. Nobody nails a pirouette on the first try. Or the fiftieth. Dancers learn what it feels like to be bad at something on the way to being good at it.

4. Generosity. In a good studio, dancers celebrate each other. Someone else's progress isn't a threat.

5. Courage. Standing in front of a room and doing something hard — that confidence carries into classrooms, interviews and stages for the rest of their lives.

We work on courtesy, promptness, self-discipline, responsibility, diligence and generosity right alongside tendus and pliés. That's on purpose.

Middle and high school dance team members and theatre kids — this one's for you. 📣

Here's the thing nobody tells you: the dancers who stand out at drill team tryouts and musical auditions are almost always the ones with ballet training underneath everything else. Turnout, extension, control, musicality, the ability to pick up choreography fast — that all comes from technique class.

Tween/Teen Ballet — the foundation. Every style gets easier once you have it. Tap — rhythm, clarity, and a skill that shows up in almost every musical Jazz — the style your team routines are built on Contemporary — expression, floor work, and control

Beginners are genuinely welcome. You do not need years of training to start — you need a place that will meet you where you are and actually teach you.

Nutcracker auditions are tomorrow — here's how to walk in ready. 🎄

What to bring: ✔ $25 audition fee (cash, exact change preferred) ✔ Ballet attire and shoes ✔ Hair secured in a bun ✔ A water bottle

Check-in is 30 minutes before your audition time: Ages 7–10 → check in 1:30, audition 2:00 Ages 11–14 → check in 2:30, audition 3:00 Ages 15+ → check in 3:30, audition 4:00

What to expect: an audition is really just a ballet class. Our faculty will lead barre and center work and watch how dancers move, listen and pick up combinations. There is no solo to prepare and nothing to memorize ahead of time.

Parents — a word for the car ride over: every dancer who auditions is part of this production. Casting is about matching dancers to roles, not ranking them. Encourage them to go in, work hard, and enjoy it.

A few things to know before you come: 👕 Dancers can wear anything comfortable to move in — no dancewear required 👟 Bare feet or socks are fine for sample classes ⏰ Come for one class or stay the whole afternoon 🙋 Siblings, grandparents, curious neighbors — all welcome ✅ No RSVP, no registration, no pressure

And all afternoon, 1:30 to 4:30 — meet the faculty, tour the facility, and enjoy games, treats and giveaways.

It's Nutcracker season. 🎄🩰

Auditions are Sunday, August 16 — here's everything you need:

Ages 7–10 | 2:00–2:55 PM (check-in 1:30 PM)
Ages 11–14 | 3:00–3:55 PM (check-in 2:30 PM)
Ages 15+ | 4:00–5:15 PM (check-in 3:30 PM)

💵 Audition fee: $25 — cash with exact change is preferred 📋 Requirement: dancers must be enrolled in a ballet class at CTYB to audition

⚠️ Not enrolled yet? There's still time — but not much. Get your dancer registered in a ballet class this week and they'll be eligible to audition on Sunday the 16th. Enroll at the link in our bio or call (512) 894-2147.

We'll be sharing what to expect at auditions later this week, so keep an eye out.
