Dena's Dolphins Infant Aquatics LLC I’m an Certified Infant Aquatics Survival Instructor focused on reducing infant drownings. Let’s create a safer world for our little ones, one swim at a time. 🌊

I teach infants to roll over and breathe to save themselves in just weeks. Hello, my name is Dena Bailey. I’m the Proud owner of Dena’s Dolphins Infant Aquatics LLC. I grew up in Mesa Az and was around water constantly. We had a boat when I was growing up and I learned to water ski at a very young age. I feel at home in the water. I love to kayak, scuba dive, and boogie board in the ocean waves. I

’m a mom to 5 grown children and 6 grandchildren. I have a child that is Deaf so I know sign language and can teach Deaf children. I currently live in Draper UT. I was certified as a lifeguard and water safety instructor in college. Every summer I taught at a public pool in Mesa Arizona. This is where my passion and love of teaching first began. After I married I taught in my backyard pool. Teaching swimming has been a passion of mine for over 20 years, and I find it incredibly rewarding to see a child's transformation from fear to confidence in the water. I love teaching all ages from beginning swimmers, to stroke correction, and even adults who want to learn to swim, or those seeking stroke correction. I’ve always had a desire to teach infants. This is a whole new skill set. So I started searching the internet for schools who taught these skills. That's when I came across Infant Aquatics with Judy Heumann. I took the leap and happily enrolled in the course in Longmont Colorado. After completing the course I’ve logged in 100 hours of hands-on training from children 6 months and up. The course also included physiology, psychology, and development of a child between 6 mo to 6 years as they apply to swimming and water survival. I’ve learned children can learn survival skills in weeks, not years. My goal is for parents and their children to understand survival skills can be taught within weeks not years. That they don’t have to wait to enroll their child in lessons. Let's get them started at 6 months! You’ll be amazed, after the proper training, what your child can do to save themselves.

Most of us don’t get a behind-the-scenes look at how our kids’ coaches and teachers are trained, but an Infant Aquatics® instructor’s training is unique—it happens in real-time, with students whose safety depends on them. 🥇

Unlike many programs where instructors receive certification after a weekend of learning, Infant Aquatics® instructors train over the course of 6 weeks, working with actual students.

Their training is hands-on from day one, because there’s no room for error when it comes to your child’s safety.

✅ This means your child’s instructor isn’t just reading about techniques or practicing in a controlled environment—they’re actively teaching real infants and toddlers during their training.

✅ They’re learning how to teach, how to adapt to each child’s unique needs, and how to ensure safety every step of the way.

🥇 The bar is set high because it has to be. The students they’re working with are learning life-saving skills, and their safety is on the line.

“Aren’t all swim instructors trained, though?” 🤔

Yes, but not all swim instructors are trained the same way.

Infant Aquatics® instructors undergo one of the most comprehensive training programs available, ensuring they know exactly what to do in any situation—and your child’s safety is the number one priority.

When your child begins lessons with an Infant Aquatics® instructor, they’re learning from someone who has spent over 100 hours in the water, mastering the techniques that lead to real results.

⭐️ Each lesson is focused on skill-building, safety, and giving your child the tools they need to make confident decisions in the water.

⭐️ Every move your child makes is guided by an instructor who understands the weight of that responsibility.

Your child’s safety is our top priority, and our instructors are committed to ensuring they have the best training possible.

🌎🌍🌏 Hundreds of thousands of families around the world have discovered the difference a comprehensive drowning prevention program can make.

It’s not enough to just show your child how to swim—even if they’re swimming independently. 🚨

A lot of children can swim on their own without knowing what to do in an emergency. As Infant Aquatics® instructors, our main focus is your child's safety, and that's why we put their skills to the test.

It’s not to make their lesson harder—it's to allow your child to experience and get used to different situations in the water.

❌ Parents who come to lessons expecting us to simply throw their child in the pool quickly realize that's the exact opposite of what happens in an Infant Aquatics® lesson.

Here’s what we do: 👇

⭐️ We help your child build self-rescue skills, day by day, teaching them how to find the surface, maintain a float, and turn over to swim to safety.

⭐️ We use positive reinforcement every step of the way, allowing your child to build confidence in their abilities!

⭐️ When they’re ready, we start to simulate real-life scenarios using specialized techniques, so your child can practice without panic.

We support your child throughout the entire process, allowing them to use their skills and build confidence—cheering them on every step of the way! 🎉

During lessons, you’ll see a variety of scenarios introduced in a safe, controlled environment, from slides and large floats to games that encourage “oops” moments.

The thing about Infant Aquatics® instructors is that every time we play a game or let your child go underwater, they’re not only safe, but we’re following specific techniques.

✅ At any point during a lesson, we can tell you exactly what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and what real-life scenario we’re recreating.

Our focus is on showing your child that getting their own air is just part of being in the water. 🥇

These are skills we hope your child never has to use, but it’s our job to make sure they’re as prepared as possible!

🎲 Don’t leave water safety to chance.

I got this nice testimonial from a mom of one of my students.

Subject: Testimonial for Dena

Hi Judy,

Thank you for helping teach Quentin to swim this summer. Here is my review for Dena for her website. I am sorry if I misspelled her name. I'd love to see the photos and videos of Quentin when you have them ready.

We had 6 weeks of infant aquatics for our 18 month old. Dena is both a kind and effective teacher, and we could see our son quickly build trust in her. He was not yet talking during lessons but he knew some baby sign language, which Dena used to communicate simple tasks ("more" and "all done"). It was really amazing to watch my son grasp the concept of swimming and floating without words! We are pool owners, so it is such a breath of relief knowing he can swim. The program is very effective and exposes young children to swimming in many different situations, e.g. in shoes and fully clothed, as well as a regular diaper and wetsuit. The lessons are shorter, and multiple times per week, which is perfect for an infant. Last week our son jumped in the pool before anyone else got in. Thanks to infant aquatics, he was just floating on his back as happy as can be. If he hadn't had lessons I can imagine how we'd have been scrambling at that moment. He's always been eager and interested in the water, but to see him confidently swim, float, swim, and find the edge of the pool is such a relief. Not only for his safety, but also so he can enjoy pooltime with his family! If you have a baby or young toddler, I highly recommend Dena.

Thank you.
Kathleen

Here's a very inspirational story. This is why I'm teaching!

I will be forever grateful for infant swimming lessons!
We started lessons last year in June of 2023 a month before my son Jaxon's second birthday. Jaxon is on the spectrum and nonverbal and he has always loved water with no fear at all! so it can get scary around water when he loves it so much! Just a few months after Jaxon had mastered his swimming lessons we decided to go swimming as a family.
We were in the kiddie pool with lots of rowdy kids. Jaxon was standing behind an older boy, the older boy did not see Jaxon behind him, accidentally bumping him causing Jaxon to go under the water completely. Within a few seconds Jaxon was floating on his back waiting for me to come get him. ( I also have Arthritis in my feet so I'm not very fast) If it wasn't for Infant swimming lessons I can't even imagine how our day would have gone!
I highly recommend putting your little ones in these lessons (especially if they are on the spectrum) And I will forever recommend these lessons for every family that is considering it! Just do it! You won't regret it at all.
Now when we go swimming all the stress and fears are gone and we can enjoy ourselves! Especially Jaxon and his love for water! ❤️

Here's a basic definition of survival swimming, what I teach, "the ability of a baby 👶 to float and breathe, regardless of the water's depth, for an indefinite period of time."
