Dance Teacher Advice

My advice to students considering Dance as an elective:

Dance is more than learning choreography. It teaches you discipline, confidence, teamwork, creativity, focus, and perseverance. If you choose Dance, come into the class ready to learn, participate, respect others, and challenge yourself.
You do not have to be the best dancer when you walk through the door. You just need to be willing to learn and grow.

My advice is:
Choose Dance because you love to move and express yourself.
Be open to learning different styles and cultures of dance.
Practice consistently. Improvement comes with repetition.
Respect your classmates and their different abilities.
Take corrections as an opportunity to grow, not as criticism.
Be confident enough to try, even when you are unsure.
Work as a team. Dance is both an individual and collaborative art.

Take care of your body through proper warm-up, stretching, alignment, and safe movement.
Set goals for yourself and celebrate your progress.
Most importantly, have fun and allow yourself to become an artist.

My message as your Dance Teacher:
“You don't have to arrive as a dancer. Come ready to learn, and I will help you discover the dancer within you.”

What an amazing experience!

M/J International Dance Academy was honored to participate in the International Black Theatre Festival as Featured Guest Performers. It was a privilege to share the stage with so many talented artists and represent our academy through the art of dance.

We are incredibly proud of our dancers who competed in the National Youth Talent Show:
Keturah Kindle earned 1st Place Overall, receiving a trophy and a monetary award for her outstanding choreography and performance.

Olivia Dubose earned 2nd Place Overall, receiving a trophy for her exceptional performance.
Benai Richardson represented M/J International Dance Academy with grace, artistry, and professionalism, delivering a beautiful performance that made us incredibly proud.

A special congratulations to Jerome Johnson, whose powerful performance in our featured group work was a beautiful display of artistry, passion, and excellence. His commitment to storytelling through movement continues to inspire our dancers and audiences alike.

It was an honor for Monica Johnson to serve as the choreographer and director of our featured group piece, Wade in the Water. Bringing this vision to life alongside such dedicated dancers was truly a memorable experience.

Congratulations again to Jerome Johnson and Keturah Kindle on their outstanding choreography, artistry, and well-deserved recognition. Your creativity and dedication continue to elevate the standard of excellence at M/J International Dance Academy.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the International Black Theatre Festival for providing this incredible opportunity. Every step we take is inspired by those who came before us and is a commitment to excellence for those who will follow.

We are proud to provide our students with experiences that extend beyond the studio, exposing them to history, culture, and the arts while encouraging them to dream without limits.

For more than 25 years, the Johnson family has been committed to serving our community through the arts. Since 2001, Just 4 Kicks Studio of Dance and M/J International Dance Academy has had the privilege of teaching, mentoring, and inspiring thousands of children through quality dance education, discipline, and artistic excellence.

These photos represent only a small glimpse of the ministry and legacy God has allowed us to build. Behind every performance is a story of growth, confidence, perseverance, and a family that believed in the power of dance to transform lives.
We are deeply grateful to God for His faithfulness, for every student who has walked through our doors, for every parent who entrusted us with their child, and for every teacher, volunteer, and supporter who has helped make this journey possible.

Our mission has always been greater than teaching dance steps. We strive to develop character, cultivate excellence, build confidence, and create opportunities that prepare young people for success both on and off the stage.
