It’s the life we chose. There is no finish line. 🏃🏾♂️⛰️
Getting the weekend started at an incredible 100-mile relay hosted by Wild Runners and Nike All Conditions Gear. What an amazing event and the perfect way to kick off the weekend.
One of the biggest highlights was joining the legendary Ann Trason for a one-mile celebratory walk honoring her remarkable career.
A multiple-time Western States 100 champion and one of the greatest ultrarunners ever, Ann’s humility is just as inspiring as her accomplishments. Sharing even a small part of that celebration was something I’ll never forget.
Then Yari and I headed to Olympic Valley to keep the weekend going…
That’s when I unexpectedly met Gordy Ainsleigh.
Back in 1974, when his horse couldn’t compete in the Tevis Cup, Gordy ran the entire 100-mile course on foot—proving it could be done in under 24 hours. That single decision laid the foundation for what would become the legendary Western States Endurance Run.
I introduced myself and eventually asked if he’d want to go for a run.
He smiled and said,
“Only if we run the south side of the Folsom Lake trails.”
I laughed and replied,
“You’re the boss—let’s do it!”
He chuckled and said he was too slow these days.
I’d only ever seen Gordy in documentaries. I never imagined I’d randomly meet him in Olympic Valley.
Sometimes the best moments are the ones you never plan for.
Running has a way of bringing incredible people together.👑
