A breakthrough in pancreatic cancer treatment has roots.

Dr. Martin Burke — a renowned organic chemist, physician, and Illinois chemistry professor — co-founded Revolution Medicines while helping to launch the world’s first engineering-based college of medicine, Carle Illinois College of Medicine.

In a recent Phase 3 clinical trial, Revolution Medicine’s oral drug, daraxonrasib, nearly doubled the median survival for patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, offering more time and more manageable side effects than standard chemotherapy.

Daraxonrasib is a small molecule that acts like a molecular glue and switches off mutant KRAS proteins that are the root of most pancreatic cancers.

“For me, I think seeing something that we helped contribute to actually make an impact in the real world kind of leads to this almost amplified sense of urgency to try to do something important,” Burke said.
