Foggy Mountain Ranch Champion Riding Academy is a premier equine riding school dedicated to developing confident, knowledgeable, and competitive riders through a classical foundation of horsemanship rooted primarily in English riding principles applied to Western riding. Our program is built on the belief that true riding excellence comes from understanding the “why” behind every skill, movement, and training method—not simply following instructions. Specializing in barrel racing, Foggy Mountain Ranch Champion Riding Academy offers multiple competitive racing teams structured by rider skill level and progression within the riding school program. Riders begin competing at the local non-sanctioned level and advance through sanctioned competition opportunities where they can pursue points standings for State, National, and World qualifications, with the potential to eventually earn professional-level opportunities and Pro-Cards.
One of the most unique aspects of the program is that students do not need to own a horse in order to compete at any level. Riders are paired with carefully selected horses trained by head trainer Carmen Dalton based on their individual skill level, experience, and developmental needs. This allows riders access to safe, capable, and competitive equine partners throughout their progression.
As riders advance into Team 2 and Team 3 and meet the required riding standards, they may become eligible to lease a horse. Leasing provides additional riding opportunities while also teaching students the responsibilities of caring for and managing an equine athlete. This structure gives riders hands-on experience in horse management, conditioning, and partnership development while continuing to build advanced competitive skills.

Purchasing and developing competitive horses at each stage of a rider’s growth can be financially and logistically challenging, especially because the ideal horse for a beginner building confidence is often not the same horse capable of carrying a rider to elite levels of competition. Our program bridges that gap by providing access to trained performance horses and a structured developmental pathway, allowing riders from all backgrounds the opportunity to pursue their goals regardless of their ability to purchase a high-caliber competition horse.
