Teacher Trainer at Svaroopa Vidya Ashram I am a Teacher Trainer at Svaroopa Vidya Ashram. I teach both yoga & meditation.

My joy and goal is to share what my Guru, Gurudevi Nirmalananda has given to me. This yoga is amazing and I would love to share it with you. 🙏

Whether the weather is sunny or rainy- you are still you! The goal of yoga is to stay centered in your Self no matter what is going on on the outside.

This takes practice of course. That’s why our ashram has many offerings from free articles and classes to sutra studies, immersions and more.

Join me as I cook lunch at the Ashram!
As I cooked the spices today everything got really fragrant. It set up the flavor for the whole dish. This made me think of the Sanskrit word “rasa” which means the juice or blissful essence. The tempering is the essence and what gives the meal its flavor.

Similarly, in yoga it is the experience of your own Self that gives you your rasa. Life becomes juicy when you are centered within.

Gurudevi talks about this in her August 2023 teachings article, “A Juicy Life”

I went to our local creamery this afternoon. It was perfect with the sun just starting to set, the weather warm and also a bit cool. Lots of families and small children all looking really happy.

The ice cream is homemade and so yummy. I got black raspberry and mocha chip. And the creamery is also a farm so I got to visit with the baby and adult cows and lots of goats! 🐮🤍

So what’s the teaching here? Go out and have fun? Yes and no.
Going out and having fun is called bhoga in Sanskrit- the pursuit of pleasure.
It rhymes with “yoga”, which is the exact opposite - quiet your mind and turn within to experience your own blissful Self.

And most meditative systems say you must give up bhoga to pursue yoga- you can’t have both. But in Ta**ra we are bhogi-yogis. We experience the bliss inside and see and experience that same bliss in the world. The world is not something to run away or distance yourself from. And still, you must be disciplined enough to find your bliss inside first. That’s the key. Then you take your bliss with you everywhere you go.

Gurudevi says it this way:
“This is the ta***ic loom, with bhoga and yoga woven together into a sacred cloth. Yogic spirituality is not something reserved for Sunday mornings, but is knitted through your whole life, enriching your relationships and everything you do.”

Today is my 100th day of repeating 10,008+ mantras a day.
Thank you Gurudevi for this practice. I feel the mantra with me more and more even without thinking about it.
The mantra is the portable Guru so it’s been more time with the Guru. More time with grace.

“The enlivened mantra is sacred words, words of power. They invoke the upwelling of Consciousness within you. This inner arising transforms you completely, bringing a whole new level of aliveness and enthusiasm into your life. You see the world differently. You see you differently.”
- Gurudevi Nirmalananda, May 2025 Teachings Article “Words Matter”

Over a year ago we consolidated our two ashram buildings and moved into Lokananda, our immersion center. While I hung up most of my Guru photos, there have been some I haven’t found a home for yet.

Tonight I found the perfect spot for three of them, right above my closet! Having them so high up on the north wall feels great, like they are watching over me.

The center photo is my Guru - Gurudevi Nirmalananda
To her left is her Guru - Baba Muktananda
To her right is Baba’s Guru - Bhagavan Nityananda

This is our parampara or lineage of great meditation Masters that pass down the highest teachings of yoga and the grace that gives you the direct experience. 🙏

Happy Guru Purnima!

Many pranams to my Guru - Gurudevi Nirmalananda Saraswati 🙏

She is the Lord of Yogis. A living example of how to be based in Self, bliss-filled while fully present and active in the world.

She is adorable!!! 🥰

And she is fire!!! 🔥

She will not let you stay small and limited. She won’t let you settle for good enough, or even happy. She wants you to be even more than happy - ever blissful, knowing and being your own Self.

While the Guru Gita verse 93 states that the Guru is the physician who cures the disease of worldliness, do not confuse this with world denial. The world is a beautiful manifestation of your own being. The world is Self in form.

Worldliness is getting lost in the form and forgetting that you are the one underlying it all.

The Guru reminds you of your own true nature. You rediscover your own Self and then recognize that same Self in all. Then, instead of worldliness you experience jagadananda - the bliss of the world. 💙

Thank you Gurudevi for being our guide and example of this.

Jai Jai Gurudevi!!! 🔥🧡🙏

This is Anatomy for Yogis!

Today we are looking at the tailbone. And I will explain with the Svaroopa® Yoga Sutra:
“It all begins at your tailbone”

Have you ever seen a puppy when it’s scared how it tucks its tail under between its legs? Well we do the same thing.

Whenever you are anxious, worried, scared, angry, frustrated your body has a physical response. Your tailbone tucks under just like that scared puppy dog. Technically your tailbone tucks under and pulls to one side. This creates a domino effect of tightening all the way up your spine.

This is why in every Svaroopa® Yoga class we always start with a pose to release your tailbone tensions. And then we do more poses to carry the openings up your spine.

What would it be like to live with a long, soft fluffy tail?
Everything is better when you release your tailbone! Come to a yoga class to find out for yourself.

This story is called Singing for God.

The great musician Tansen and King Akbar go to visit Haridas - Tansen’s Guru. Haridas’s music is so divine that King Akbar cries with joy. He wants to know why Hairidas’s music is so different.

Tansen explains that more important than what you do is who you do it for. Tansen plays for King Akbar but his Guru plays for God.

When you dedicate your actions to God, it makes a big difference. Not just for you but for those around you as well. 🙏
