Excuuuuuse me?

Scrolled upon a chain "bootcamp" gym's post, asking members to throw out their trainers' favorite lines. This one was tossed out in a comment.

I forget sometimes that there are still group fitness classes that operate like this.

"Tired" is absolutely a reason to modify!

My heart broke a little, imagining a new mom who was up all night with an unsettled baby, showing up to class, being asked to push herself further than her body wanted her to push, being made to feel like she wasn't allowed to drop to her knees when she couldn't engage her abs for a plank any longer.

Not only is *not modifying* when you're tired a sad scenario--it's a dangerous one!

If you have a trainer who shames you for listening to your body, please, know that you don't have to keep going back!

In my gym...if you're tired, girl, we modify. Whether you're tired because of life stress or because you're at the end of your work set, you do you. I'll guide you.

There's just something extra special about working out with your mom/daughter. You'll both get stronger and improve your conditioning, of course, but you'll also be bonding over feeling awkward, trying new things, making sweat puddles, and celebrating progress!

Last week, I had the honor of training 3 generations of women--and a best friend!

I've had J as an in-person client since pre-pandemic, but she invited her mom along for the ride once we went virtual.

As if mother-daughter workouts weren't cool enough--each training from a different house in a different town--a good family friend began joining in several months ago. J's mom and friend learned kettlebells completely from scratch through online training, growing quite the collection of kettlebells along the way.

Three awesome women spread across the state, sharing 2 hours a week working out together.

While I was out of the country for 6 weeks, they completed a custom challenge program calling for daily workouts, and continued to log-in to complete 2 virtual workouts/week together at their normal times!

Then, one day last week, J's daughter decided to join in, sharing some living room space with her mom. How cool is that?!

I love the banter and the friendly competition that springs up during their sessions, and I love being a part of their fitness story.

Meet Bev.
Bev turned 65 years young, one day after barbell deadlifting 160 lbs.

This photo is from summer 2020, when Bev first started training with me and soon after I introduced her to the deadlift.

Bev had NEVER weight-trained in her life, and she had no preconceived ideas about plates on a barbell. Without asking too many questions, without hesitation, without allowing self-doubt to seep in, Bev showed up, twice a week, nearly every week--training online with limited kettlebells only all through the gym closure!

Fast forward to a new gym space with months of practice under her belt...

Yesterday, after several warm-up sets, Bev asked me, "Now, how much weight is this?" as I snuck on the 5-lb. plates that topped her off at 160 #. I replied, "Meh, don't worry about it," with a smirk, totally giving it away that she would be going for a personal record.

She said, "Oh! I shouldn't have asked!" and then went on to pull the weight.

No time for photos/videos, so this story will have to suffice!

If you're wondering if you're too old, if it's been too long since you've worked out, if you're too _____, this is your reminder that you're never "too anything" to try it anyway!

Find a coach who would love nothing more than to see you hit goals you didn't know you had (🙋‍♀️), and go have fun!

After a brief-turned-not-so-brief hiatus, we are back to regular operations!

The Thrive Tribe kept at it, thanks to Niki Treat and Tami Wallence-Frantz, but after 6 weeks away, it felt amazing to be back with my crew.

Springtime sights and sounds, all nine windows open, comfortable cool breeze with studio temps at 69 degrees = paradise.

If you've been waiting for your kids to be back in school, or to get the vaccine, or to get out of your winter funk, or... then the time is NOW!
