FAQ on my nutrition & supps!

What do I eat?

How do I eat what I eat, and not gain weight?
1. I track MOST of my food. I emphasize most because I’m not ridiculously strict about my calories and or macros. Instead I enjoy practicing a blend of flexible dieting and eating intuitively. (Both habits I developed after years of tracking EVERYTHING I ate.)
2. I eat maintenance calories for the most part, as to not gain weight, but also to be able to fuel my body. If there’s days that I eat in a surplus of calories, then I create a deficit on other days, as to balance the intake of calories and burned calories. (This creates maintenance overall.)

Do I drink?
Yes! Mostly red wine. But tequila is a close second. 🍷🍹🍾

Do I meal prep?
Most weeks yes, I do meal prep, for the week, for myself & my boys. But there’s weeks I don’t. On those weeks I do the best I can with what’s in the fridge or, I mindfully pick up takeout! 🥡

Do I grocery shop?
Yea at least 1-2 times a week. I mostly go to Ralph’s, Trader Joe’s & Costco.

Do my kids eat what I eat?
I’d say 95% of the time, yes. Serving sizes vary. Also a few dislikes and likes of foods.

Do I take supplements & or vitamins?
Yes! I use protein powder, multivitamin, vitamin d, pms supplement, apple cider vinegar chewables, fiber, collagen, turmeric and iron. I don’t use fat burners and I try to just drink coffee as a pre-workout.

As always, I hope this is helpful. Keep in mind what works for me, may not work for you. I strongly believe the most sustainable and realistic “diet” is one you can follow without an app and without shame. I believe we should strive to have a happy and healthy relationship with food, booze and supps!

You wouldn’t normally catch me at the gym in a sports bra because I’m insecure about my stomach.

I’m not sharing this with you because I’m seeking validation or compliments. I’m sharing this very real insecurity in hopes that you realize that even “fitness influencers” struggle with body image and body dysmorphia.

Instagram photos of perfect fitness models hide the real truth, that no matter how hard we work out, being in great physical shape doesn’t necessarily mean your life will suddenly be perfect. When we focus so much on looking a certain way, we aren’t necessarily dealing with the real issues behind our insecurities.

Today after dominating my workout I decided to jump on the treadmill for 10 minutes. While on the treadmill, I wished I could take my sweaty ass shirt off. But then I reminded myself that people would see my stomach, and I couldn’t flex for the next 10 minutes or suck it in.
“What would people think if they realized I don’t walk around with abs?!)

Ayeee…Que ridícula!

So after a brief minute of self doubt, I talked myself back to a place of empowerment and self love.

This is how:
I reflected on how amazing my leg day had been because…
I fueled my body with the nutrients it needed
I slept adequate hours for my body to recover
I hydrated my body
I’ve taken time to educate myself on how to lift correctly
I strategically planned a set routine for the day
I mentally prepared to execute my routine

For all these reasons and many more I am proud. There’s nothing about the appearance of my stomach that can take away from who I am and what I am capable of.

So then I took off my shirt! And then I took a pic to share with y’all 😘

Why do we obsess over the number on the scale? 🚫
Is it because we think if we reach a magical number we’ll be happy? We’ll be more attractive? We’ll be more successful? We’ll get the partner of our dreams? We’ll get revenge on someone who did us wrong? What are we chasing?

I can only speak for myself, but I use to think if I could get thin enough, a man would choose me.

What a ridiculous concept! 🎤
There’s so many things wrong with that idea, that truly laid so much deeper than the “problem” at hand.

The reality is the scale isn’t the problem, your mental & emotional health is dictating your mindset.

So, yes working out helped me build a physique I’m proud of, it’s the journey that’s changed my mindset.

Throughout my fitness journey I’ve learned how to dissect those deep rooted issues, and in turn I now choose myself first, and foremost.

I’ve learned to love my body at any weight.
I’ve learned to appreciate the incredible things I can do, with this body.
I’ve learned how to be dedicated, disciplined and committed to my own growth.
I’ve learned how to make myself happy, even on my darkest days.
I’ve learned how beautiful I am, regardless of what I look like or what the scale reads.
I’ve learned that the scale won’t determine my success, the scale won’t develop my relationships and the scale will not be the driving force of motivation for me.
I am my motivation.

Body by Desi: b***y pump 1.0 is live!

For years I’ve been asked if I offered a specialized b***y building program?

Well the time has finally come, you can now purchase a monthly membership that will give you access to specialized b***y building routines you can perform at home or the gym.

The program is designed to work in addition to your existing strength training program. Consider it the cherry, or cherries 🍒 on top! The program is made up of two routines you perform weekly. We perform a series of banded workouts along with your compound movements such as squats, hip thrust and deadlifts.

You’ll access your workouts using my fitness app, hosted by trainerize. On the app you’ll have the opportunity to watch demonstration videos that will help guide you. You’ll also be able to track your workouts and your progress. Plus the app will give you direct access to me for support and accountability!

I’ve been so fortunate to help 100’s of women build their glutes, let me hell you.

for all my beginners or my “I’m too old to start” folks, no you’re not!

Last week I landed a personal training client I’ve been chasing after for years, my mom!

My mother is 65 years old with underlying health conditions. I’ve wished and prayed that she would allow me to help her learn how to exercise for functionality and so that she can continue to live a happy and full life, especially as she prepares to retire in the near future.

The day finally came, my prayers were answered and she agreed to start working with me. (Happy tears 😭!)

I created a plan for her to follow for the next 4 weeks, 2 times a week.
1. Squat to box 3x8-10
2. Aerobic step ups 3x6-10 each leg
3. Glute bridge 3x10-12
4. Seated bent over row with a resistance band 3x8-10
5. Seated bicep curls 3x8-10
6. Seated overhead press 3x8-10
We wrap up our workout with a few full body stretches.

Im so proud of my momma and so excited for her to reap all the benefits of exercise!
