It is with immense sadness that we share the news of Victor Jay Herrera's passing. Known to many as Jay, he was a cherished member of the LAMSL community for many years, following in the footsteps of his brother, Steve, by joining the league at a young age.
The Herrera family's deep roots in LAMSL began with Jay's grandfather, Kaliman—a familiar face as both a player and an umpire—who introduced his son, Victor Herrera Sr., and later his grandchildren, to the league.
We are particularly heartbroken, as Jay had recently returned to LAMSL after a brief absence, playing alongside his son for the first time in our winter league. His return brought so much joy, and his absence leaves an unfillable void.
Our sincerest condolences go out to his brother Steve, who manages the Showtime team, and to Jay's children and the entire Herrera family.
During these challenging times, it is essential for our LAMSL family to unite and offer support. We urge you to consider contributing to the GoFundMe linked below. It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news of Shawn Thomas's passing. Shawn was a long-standing member of LAMSL and a friend to both my father and me.

Shawn's loss is especially hard. He participated in many of our seasons and tournaments, always bringing joy and fun to his teams. He never hesitated to help out whenever we needed assistance. I also deeply appreciated the respect he always showed my father, especially making it a point to speak with him in Spanish.

I am still in disbelief but want to assure everyone that Shawn will always be remembered in our league as one of its brightest and best players. He will truly be missed.

We all have seen the devastation that these fires have caused in the Los Angeles area in the last week. With that said, it breaks my heart to announce that one of our very members family homes was affected by this catastrophe. Eric Smalling and his mother join the thousands of people having to endure this horrific experience in losing their family home which Cecilio Smalling established for him and his family years ago. As always, I ask our LAMSL family to pull together and do what you can in support of Eric and his family who have lost everything in this fire. Our hearts go out to Eric, Mrs. Smalling and the entire L.A. community dealing with the aftermath of this disaster.
