And the first thing I found is that there is no industry-wide consensus, but there is a rough range. Trek told me three years after purchase once a helmet is in use. Giro said three to five years depending on storage conditions. POC said five years. Sweet Protection said five years of regular use. Smith said five years of active use, or up to 10 years from the manufacturing date if the helmet has been stored indoors in controlled conditions.

Specialized declined to comment.
