Things all pitchers need to remember:
- it's not just about you.
- you're strong enough and capable enough to make mechanical adjustments in games.
- you can find a way to win with what you've got that day.
- any form of an out is one you should love.
- pitches over the plate will get hit hard.
- the pitching area may not be perfectly level, you can win anyway.
- your team winning is the most important thing.
- the support and wishing goodwill to other pitchers on your team goes a long way.
- you can always learn something, even when you aren't pitching in the game.
- you don't have to have the perfect warm up to go into a game and be effective if your team needs you to warm up quick.
- your attitude matters 100% of the time, even when you're not performing how you think you should be or getting the playing time you think you should have.
We should hold pitchers to a high standard and know they are capable of so much more.
When we as coaches (or parents) feed into excuses, the excuses fester AND worse, they multiply. They become a crutch.
Pitchers CAN be tough.
Pitchers SHOULD be tough.
The ultimate goal is to win...show determination.....show grit...and understand that you are capable of taking control of all the things you THINK you can't control.
