The Providence Christian Varsity Eagles pulled out a thrilling 10β9 victory over Pike County on Friday in a high-scoring battle. Providence racked up 13 hits on the night to secure the win.
The Eagles got on the board early in the first inning when Alyse Deer doubled to bring in the first run. In the second, Ella Kate Duke added to the lead with an RBI single to make it 2β0. Emma Lane Duke kept the momentum going in the third with a big home run to center field, driving in two runs.
Providence sealed the game in the top of the sixth inning, flipping the momentum with five runs on three hits to take a 10β5 lead. The highlight of the inning was a clutch double from Carlee Smith that drove in two runs.
Ella Kate Duke earned the win in the circle, allowing five hits and four runs (none earned) over 3.2 innings while striking out six. Paige Smoak and Taylor Creel both came in to help in relief.
The Eagles finished with 13 total hits. Carlee Smith and Addison Russ led the way with three hits each, hitting back-to-back in the lineup. Deer, Smith, and Duke each drove in two runs. Taylor Creel added two hits, while Braleigh Tolleson swiped two bases.
Next up, the Eagles return to the field Saturday, March 7 for a doubleheader β taking on Dale County at 10:00 AM and New Brockton at 4:00 PM.
