❤️ THE CHILD SITTING ALONE MAY JUST NEED ONE FRIEND.
Parents, here's a conversation you can have at dinner tonight.
Ask your child:
“Is there anyone at school who always seems to be alone?”
Then ask:
“What could you do tomorrow to make that person feel included?”
Sit next to them.
Say hello.
Invite them into the game.
Introduce them to friends.
One small act of kindness can completely change another child's day.
We spend a lot of time teaching children how to stand up for themselves.
Let's also teach them how to stand up for someone else.
🥋 That's leadership.
And that's the kind of black belt I want to develop.

🚨 PARENTS, HERE'S THE QUESTION NONE OF US WANTS TO ASK:
“WHAT IF MY CHILD IS THE BULLY?”
This week's conversation can't only be about protecting children who are being bullied.
We also have to be willing to look at the other side.
What if a teacher tells you your child is repeatedly picking on someone?
Don't immediately say:
“My child would never do that.”
Listen.
Ask questions.
Find out what happened.
And use it as an opportunity to teach.
Children make mistakes.
Our responsibility is to correct the behavior and help them become better.
🥋 In martial arts, we teach that strength comes with responsibility.
We never use our skills, size or confidence to make someone else feel small.
That's character.

😢 “EVERYONE WAS LAUGHING AT ME.”
That's a sentence that can break a parent's heart.
Sometimes children laugh along because they don't want anyone to know they're hurt.
Then they carry that hurt home.
Parents, this is why confidence matters so much.
A confident child isn't immune to hurtful words.
But confidence can help them understand:
Someone else's cruel words do not determine their value.
At United Martial Arts, every belt earned, every technique learned and every obstacle overcome
gives us another opportunity to tell a child:
🥋 “Look what YOU accomplished.”
Little victories build confidence.
And confidence can become armor that children carry everywhere they go.
❤️ Believe in your child until they learn to believe in themselves.

Cyberbullying can follow a child right into their bedroom.
That's why I encourage parents to stay involved in their children's digital lives.
Not because you don't trust your child.
Because you're protecting your child.
Talk about what they see online.
Ask who's messaging them.
Teach them that blocking, reporting and asking an adult for help is not weakness.
❤️ We teach children to protect themselves physically.
Parents, let's also teach them to protect themselves digitally.

🚫 “JUST HIT HIM BACK!” — PLEASE DON'T MAKE THAT THE FIRST
LESSON.
Dad, I understand the instinct.
Someone hurts your child and immediately you think:
“Defend yourself!”
Yes, children should know how to protect themselves.
That's one reason I have dedicated my life to teaching martial arts.
But self-defense also means knowing when NOT to fight.
We teach our students to use their awareness, confidence and voice first.
Get away.
Find an adult.
Report what's happening.
And if there is no safe way out and they truly need to protect themselves, that's when
self-defense skills matter.
🥋 The goal isn't winning a fight.
The goal is getting home safely.
That's a lesson I want every child to understand.

😟 IS YOUR CHILD BECOMING QUIETER THAN USUAL?
Parents, you know your child better than anyone.
Sometimes it's the little changes that tell us something isn't right.
Maybe they're suddenly quieter.
Maybe they don't talk about certain friends anymore.
Maybe they're nervous about going somewhere they used to enjoy.
Maybe their personality just seems…different.
Those changes don't automatically mean bullying is happening.
But they are reasons to start a conversation.
Don't interrogate them.
Talk to them.
Listen.
And remind them:
❤️ “Whatever is happening, we can deal with it together.”
Confidence starts at home when children know they're not facing problems alone.
🥋 And we'll continue reinforcing that confidence every time they step onto our mats.

“BUT MASTER ROD… WILL MARTIAL ARTS MAKE MY CHILD
AGGRESSIVE?”
Parents have asked me this over the years.
My answer is simple:
Good martial arts training should teach the opposite.
I don't want children walking around looking for a fight.
I want them confident enough that they don't feel they have to prove anything.
We teach children:
🧠 Think before reacting
🗣 Use their voice
🚶 Walk away when possible
󰠅 Get help from a trusted adult
🥋 Protect themselves when truly necessary
And most importantly:
Having the ability to defend yourself doesn't give you the right to hurt someone.
That's the difference between learning techniques and learning martial arts.
❤️ Respect and self-control always come first.

BULLYING DOESN'T ALWAYS LEAVE A BRUISE.
Parents, when we hear the word bullying, many of us picture pushing, hitting or fighting.
But bullying can also involve:
😔 Repeated teasing
📱 Hurtful messages
🚫 Deliberately excluding someone
😂 Humiliating them in front of others
🗣 Spreading rumors
😡 Threatening or intimidating them
Words can hurt a child deeply even when we can't see the injury.
That's why knowing what's happening in our children's lives is so important.
Don't only look for bruises. Look for changes.
And keep that communication open.
🥋 Martial arts should never be about teaching children to fight every problem.
We teach confidence, awareness, respect and self-control.

😔 “MOM, I DON'T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL TOMORROW.”
Parents, please don't automatically assume they're just trying to get out of school.
Ask why.
A sudden change in how a child feels about school can have many explanations, but it's worth
having the conversation.
Sit down with them tonight.
Put the phone away.
Give them your full attention.
And say:
❤️ “You can tell me anything. I'm listening.”
Sometimes children don't need us to immediately fix everything.
First, they need to know someone believes them and is willing to listen.
Then we can decide together what the next step should be.
🥋 Strong children still need someone in their corner.

PARENTS: WOULD YOUR CHILD TELL YOU IF THEY WERE
BEING BULLIED?
Mom and Dad, this is something I want you to think about today.
We'd all like to believe our children would come home and immediately tell us if someone was
bullying them.
But some children don't.
They may feel embarrassed. They may be afraid things will get worse. Or they may think they
should be able to handle it themselves.
That's why I encourage you to talk to your child—not just ask, “How was school?”
Try asking:
👉 Who did you sit with today?
👉 Did anyone make you uncomfortable?
👉 Who did you play or spend time with?
👉 Is there anyone at school you're trying to avoid?
Sometimes a different question opens the door to a conversation your child needs to have.
🥋 At United Martial Arts, we believe confidence begins with knowing that your voice matters.
❤️ Talk to your children. Listen to them. Let them know they can always come to you.
