Some wins mean a little more.

At just 11 years old, The Shoals MX trainee Ben McDougald earned his first GNCC victory in the 85cc (11) class at the legendary John Penton GNCC in Millfield, Ohio.

The John Penton has been part of GNCC racing since 1990 and is one of the longest-running stops on the series schedule. Held at Sunday Creek Raceway, its southern Ohio terrain is known for red clay, rocks, roots and technical woods — and when the rain comes, that challenge increases dramatically.

That was exactly the case this weekend. GNCC described the course as slick and muddy, with difficult conditions testing riders from start to finish.

Ben led early, but the race was far from easy.

“I was leading on the first lap but I was worried about messing up and losing the lead.”

After going down on a hill during that opening lap, he had to get the bike back up, regroup and keep pushing.

“I wrecked on a hill on the first lap and was afraid I couldn’t get the bike up and going again and stay in the lead.”

By the second lap, the nerves had turned into confidence.

“I knew I had it at the start of the second lap.”

And after six years of riding woods and chasing this moment since he first climbed on a motorcycle at age five, Ben finally got to say:

“It felt great to get the first place plaque today.”

A first GNCC victory is special anywhere. Earning it at The John Penton, in conditions like these, makes the accomplishment even more meaningful.

We’re incredibly proud of Ben — not only for the result, but for the composure, determination and ability to recover when the race got difficult.

Congratulations, Ben.

Help us wish a very Happy Birthday to one of our full-time The Shoals Mx trainees, Jackson Wright #94

Jackson continues to put in the work, learn, grow, and chase his goals every day he’s here. We’re proud to be a part of that journey and excited to keep watching him develop both on and off the bike.(especially off the bike) the mental fortitude and discipline he learned this season helped him trust the process and push till the end! Just being a part of that growth is very special to us here.

A special thank you to the Wright family for trusting The Shoals MX with Jackson’s training, development, and a piece of the path toward the career he’s working to build. That trust means a lot to our entire crew, and we don’t take the responsibility lightly.

Happy Birthday, Jackson! Keep working. Keep progressing. Keep chasing it.!

As we gather with family and friends for bbqs and relaxation this Labor Day, let’s take a moment to reflect that this day in American History is much more than Hardhats and Hotdogs

This year marked 250 years of America but only 132 years of official Labor Day Celebrations. That means hardworking citizens have been the heartbeat of America long before they were recognized Nationally by the first Monday in September every year since 1894 when President Grover Cleveland Signed it into law. With that being said you’re wondering why as a Motocross training facility we are giving you a history lesson?

As racers and race fans sometimes we can forget that our events are not only a chance to compete or gather with family, friends and fierce competition. It in itself is a living breathing fully functioning machine with a lot of moving parts.

A laborer is - “anyone who contributes their time, skill, effort and hands to make something possible.”

The flagger. The official. The medic. The mechanic. The track crew. The vendors. The announcer. The coaches. The photographers. The videographers. And all the countless people working behind the scenes ARE those moving parts…

Remove the flagger—
and the race isn’t safe.
Remove the official—
and the competition isn’t governed.
Remove the medic—
and the risk becomes unacceptable.
Remove the announcer—
and the story becomes quieter.
Remove the vendors—
and broken equipment can end a family’s week.
Remove the photographers and videographers—
and memories disappear.

Remove the track crew, timing crew, gate workers, mechanics, registration staff and countless others—

and eventually there is no race.

And now you see that’s what Labor Day is all about..

To every person who shows up, works hard, solves problems, turns wrenches, waves flags, answers the radio, captures a moment, or simply does the job that needs to be done—

Happy Labor Day from everyone here at The Shoals Mx
