I’m good for using euphemisms and colloquialisms on the regular. Even though I’m slower to change than molasses running up a hill in the winter, I know that it takes time and consistency. I’m not always patient with myself when it’s time to make necessary changes. I want it quick, fast, and in a hurry. See, what I do know is change takes time and as long as I keep pushing, I’ll get there. I’ve learned to set myself up for success during the change process. I’ll get there when I’m supposed to mentally, physically, and spiritually. 💪🏾

Perception is reality. However, our reality does not equal universal truth. They can be both synchronous and mutually exclusive. That brings me to positive affirmations. Yooo, I live for ‘em. Here, in this pic, I have two. In this moment, I’m super frustrated. It’s taken me 4 hrs and 22.5 mins to edit a 35 minute video. 😤 Right before this moment, a guy that I didn’t know, walked up to me and said, “I like your sticker”. Then BOOM, affirmations received The first, I’m moving in the right direction. The second, “God’s got me”. Frustration gone. 💪🏾

When it feels like hardly anyone understands, and then stereotypes you because of it can feel debilitating. It can feel irrevocable especially when you’re doing everything under your control to be the best version of yourself. Leaning on those that do “see” you is crucial! Needless to say, these two loved me unconditionally.

Though they are no longer on this earth, the struggles they went through and sacrifices they had to make coming of age pre-Civil Rights and during Civil Rights pales in comparison to anything I could ever experience.

To put things in perspective, they grew up in DEEP South Georgia withstanding not being able to get a job, have appropriate school books, or live their life without fear of retaliation for just being black is an ugly truth. Needless to say, I inherited their strength and stand on their shoulders. I truly believe we are never put in a situation that we can’t handle.

Thank you for always being there when I needed you. I owe you everything. I hope that I make you proud. I’m a product of strength, perseverance, and tenacity. They are, and as a result I am, the epitome of ELBOWGREASE!

Everything I’ve ever wanted is within my grasp! The hard part is staying the course. Many bumps in the road ahead but I got it out the mud, so I’d expect nothing less. Contrary to popular belief, I earned this. Nothing was given. 2018 was the setup for the comeback! 💯 👊🏽
