If your child is having a hard time in lessons, your reaction is so important!

Here are some helpful things to say during your child’s session:

❌ I’m sorry, it’s only a few minutes and then we can go home.
✅ I’m so proud of you for working so hard!

❌ I know you don’t want to get in. I’m sorry, but we have to.
✅ You’re going to learn so much today! I can’t wait to see it!

❌ You had a hard lesson today. That looked tiring!
✅ Wow! I can’t believe how well you swam! You’re a fish!

❌ Ok, today is the day you swim in your clothes. It’s probably going to be scary, but just try anyway.
✅ You’ve worked so hard! You’re going to have a great swim today, I can just feel it!

💧 Sometimes it’s hard to watch your child when their comfort zone is expanding in the water. That’s ok!

If you’re having a tough time, ask your instructor where the best place to watch from out of site is. You’re not the first parent to ask, and they would be more than happy to help!

This is going to make lessons so much easier for your little one!

Yessss!!

Yessss!!

1) They CAN’T take flotation devices with them wherever they go.

2) They CAN sneak back to water without their flotation device, thinking they can swim because the device always keeps them up in the water and they don’t understand when they are very young that it’s the device doing that and not their own ability (this is what happened to my son).

3) They can take the device off and try to get back into the water without it on, again thinking they can swim when they can’t (As we have seen in recent surveillance footage of a fire fighter’s son doing exactly this).

3) Using flotation devices constantly in pools encourages dependence on the device instead of their own ability.

4) Using flotation devices continuously in pools teaches bad body positioning in the water and will make it: A-MUCH easier and faster for the child to drown if they do make it to water without the device and B-MUCH harder for kids to learn proper swimming technique (It takes kids who have been in these devices TWICE as long to learn how to swim, on average).

5) 69% of drownings happen when kids are not supposed to be in water and won’t have the device on. If that happens to your child, wouldn’t you rather them know how to make their body float without a device?

Survival Swim lessons for kids under 6. Traditional lessons for kids 7 and older.

The easy way isn’t the best way for our kids.

Do the hard. Get them skilled.

Take it from a mom who lost a child this way and can never have another chance to do the right thing for him again. Don’t be me. Know better, do better.

Beautiful day to swim!

“Can my child eat before lessons?”

As we jump into a new session, it’s a good idea to remember the food policy for lessons.

🍌 Please do not allow fruit, vegetables, meat or dairy products for at least 6 hours prior to the lesson.

🥣 Up to 2 hours prior to the lesson, your child can have breast milk, rice milk, water, toast, and cereal (without fruit or nuts)—basically light, easy digestible carbs.

Some kids swallow excess air and a little water during lessons. We often burp them during lessons to help them breathe better, but if there is anything else in their stomach, it could come up as well.

Thanks for helping us keep your child as comfortable as possible and for helping us maintain a clean pool environment!
