Attention COSC

We are looking to get in contact with a member who owns or operates a commercial-grade wood chipper and would be interested in volunteering their time and equipment for a project at the club.

We are planning to spend a couple of days in May cutting trees and brush off the berms and backstops. Our goal is to chip the limbs and branches on-site rather than hauling and piling them.

If you are able to assist with this project or have any recommendations, please let us know.

Thank you for your time and for your continued support of the club.

Best regards,

Chief Okemos Board of Directors

Chief Okemos Sportsman’s Club with the National Rifle Association and Friends of the NRA is offering its Junior and Ladies Trap program for 2026!

You do not have to be a COSC member to participate in this program.
There is no cost to participate, as the program is funded through an NRA Grant.

Who can participate?
- Juniors in 3rd through 12th grade.

- Parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring future shooters out to the club so we can teach them how to safely handle and shoot a shotgun that will weigh about 8 lbs. They will also learn life skills such as discipline, sportsmanship, and gained confidence.
- Safety is strongly emphasized and always adhered to.

2026 Program Schedule
The Junior and Ladies Trap Shooting sessions will return for the 2026 season. The program begins for the participants that are new this year on April 14 and 21 at 5pm. From April 28 through
September 8, the season will continue every Tuesday (weather permitting or less than a 40% chance of rain) starting at 5pm. Usually ending about 7pm.

What’s Provided?
- Instruction and coaching from NRA certified shotgun instructors, and Range Safety Officers.
- Safety equipment
- Shotguns (if needed)
- Clay targets
- Ammunition (12 gauge or 20 gauge)
- NRA Marksmanship awards from the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program.
If you have your own shotgun, you are welcome to bring it.

Junior Requirements
The only two requirements for junior participation are:
- Be mature enough to understand and follow trap safety rules and procedures.
- Be physically able to safely hold a shotgun and shoot twenty-five rounds of ammunition.

Suggested: closed toed shoes, long-pants, long sleeve shirts, long hair tied back, brimmed hat. We have clear safety glasses. Sunglasses are allowed. Dress for the weather we have, not the weather you want.

If you have a student who wants to properly learn trap shooting, improve shotgun skills, or simply enjoy the sport in a structured and supportive environment, this program is a great fit. Chief

SPRING 2026 COSC GUN SHOW

The next COSC Gun Show is Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 9am to 3PM. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Rhoads, gun show manager, at 517-643-5989 (call or text).

Attached to this post are forms to request a vendor table, rules for the show, and advertising for the show. If you can print out and post the ad for the show at gun shops, sportsman’s clubs, American Legion, VFWs, etc., that you are affiliated with that would be a great help to the club. We had a good showing at the last show but can always use more attendees and vendors. Please forward the table request and rules forms to anyone who might be interested in being a vendor or have them contact Mike.

Help will be needed with setting up the show, modifying, placing and picking up signs for the show, helping vendors bring their
stuff in to the show and to load up after the show, take down tables, clean hall, etc. We need someone to run the kitchen for this show as our previous cooks are unavailable. Please contact Mike at 517-643-5989 to volunteer.

COSC Camp Dinner 2026

Please mark your calendars for March 7th, 2026 for our Camp Dinner. The evening begins with Appetizers and looking at Raffles and Door Prizes at 4:00 PM, dinner will follow at 5:30 PM.

A donation of wild game would be very much appreciated and will get you a ticket to this event. My number is 517-974-6178. You can call or text me to set up a time for drop off. Our meeting are on the second Monday of the month, and the Wheezer Geezer Thursday morning get together is gearing up to start again....at least for coffee and donuts if you wish to do a drop off at either of these times.

New or gently used raffle items would be very much appreciated as well. Same contact as above.

Baked goods donations are always appreciated at the dinner. We have some wonderful bakers among our members. Please consider offering your favorite dessert to our guests.

Volunteers are needed to serve the dinner, it's a buffet line with servers. This gets you in free of charge to the event.

I will need a few folks to help with clean up on Sunday morning around 11 AM. This will give you hours toward your volunteering to reduce your membership fee next year.

I hope you will join us for this day of fun, good food, and good raffle prizes. We only hold one fundraising event a year, and this is it!
