💙 MEET THE MEMBER LEADER — NICOLE SCHAFER 💙

1. What do you lead at BodyLift?
Strength 💪 + the occasional Bootcamp!

Day job: Accounts Receivable Manager for ND Energy Services.

2. How long have you been leading classes?
Since 2025! I’m technically not an instructor—I lead member-led classes.

3. Why did you start leading?
I’ve always loved creating workouts and finding new ideas. I’ve reached the point where I genuinely look forward to the gym, and I want to help others feel that way too!

4. Favorite workout?
Anything with a barbell. 🏋️‍♀️

5. Favorite exercise?
Anything squat-related!

6. Least favorite? 😂
Box jumps. My coordination says NO. 😂

7. Favorite workout music?
Anything with a good beat! 🎶

8. Favorite thing about BodyLift?
The atmosphere! Everyone is welcoming, helpful and judgment-free. We’ve all struggled with a move before, and we help each other through it. 💙

9. Something we might not know about you?
I overanalyze EVERYTHING—especially before leading a class. Sometimes the workout gets rewritten three times! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

10. Advice for someone nervous to try BodyLift?
Come give it a try! Ask questions, have fun and remember—we’ve all had that first nervous walk into a new gym. You just have to start somewhere. 💙

Steph — Strength in Motion.

Bootcamp!

Running is always my number one. I also kind of love push-ups. 🤷‍♀️

What’s one exercise you could happily never do again?
Bulgarian split squats. 😒

What’s your favorite workout song or artist?
Pretty much anything—except Celine Dion.

What do you love most about the BodyLift community?
It’s laid-back, zero ego, and just enough accountability. ❤️

What’s something members might be surprised to learn about you?
I just want to do a pull-up. It’s been about two years in the making. 😂

What would you tell someone who is nervous to try their first class at BodyLift?
We’re all in it together, and we’re all learning as we go. BodyLift is a game changer—you’ll be so glad you came

Oh, and by day I work at Urban Unwind

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR — HEATHER K 💙

1. What do you teach at BodyLift?
Yoga! 🧘‍♀️

Day Job: Contract Admin

2. How long have you been teaching?
7 years! I received my 200-hour YTT right before COVID… talk about an interesting time to become an instructor! 😂

3. Why did you become an instructor?
I originally turned to yoga for my own mental health, stress and accountability. It became something positive to focus on, and now I get to help others find that same mental clarity and movement. 🩵

4. Favorite workout?
I love a good sweaty run, but these days I’d choose a flowy yoga class that challenges me to calm my “monkey mind.” 🧘‍♀️

5. Favorite exercise?
A long walk or run outside with my dog 🐾—and I LOVE hiking!

6. Least favorite exercise? 😂
PUSHUPS. I loathe them! I’d honestly rather do mountain climbers or burpees. 😂

7. Favorite workout music?
For yoga: indie—Angus & Julia Stone, Ben Howard & Bon Iver. For cardio: EDM, dance or classic rock! 🎶

8. Favorite thing about BodyLift?
The people and the conversations. 🫶🏼 I absolutely love the connections I’ve made here.

9. Something we might not know about you?
Before becoming an instructor, I was actually scared to attend a yoga class! A friend pushed me to show up, and yoga ended up changing my life. ⭐️

10. Advice for someone nervous to try BodyLift?
Just show up! I’ve never heard anyone finish class saying they wish they hadn’t come—it’s usually, “That was awesome! I’m so glad I came!”

It’s 1000% worth it, and before long, the people at BodyLift start to feel like family. 💙

💙 MEET THE INSTRUCTOR — AMANDA 💙

1. What do you teach at BodyLift?
Bootcamp, Pilates Reformer & Yoga Trapeze!

Day job: Human Resources Lead

2. How long have you been teaching?
Since 2020! I started after getting my Yoga Trapeze certification through YogaBody.

3. Why did you become an instructor?
I actually started as a BodyLift member in 2017! I fell in love with Trapeze, got certified, and with Heather’s encouragement eventually added Bootcamp and Reformer. I never imagined I’d go from member to instructor!

4. Favorite workout?
It’s a tie between strength training 💪 and Pilates Reformer. I love lifting heavy, but I also love the endless variety and challenge of the Reformer.

5. Favorite exercise?
RDLs—all the variations! Give me some heavy dumbbells and I’m happy.

6. Least favorite exercise? 😂
Running. Jumping is a close second. 😂 Give me weights over traditional cardio any day!

7. Favorite workout music?
Pop EDM 🎶 Gryffin, Kygo & Two Friends are always on my playlists.

8. Favorite thing about BodyLift?
The community. 💙 It’s women-owned, judgment-free and filled with women of all fitness levels encouraging each other and becoming friends. It’s what has kept me here since 2017!

9. Something we might not know about you?
I’m a total bookworm! 📚 I read 100+ books a year.

10. Advice for someone nervous to try BodyLift?
Everyone starts somewhere! I started with 8-lb dumbbells and no clue what I was doing. 😂

And never be afraid to modify. After two back surgeries, I’m a huge believer in working with the body you have that day. Modifying doesn’t mean you aren’t working hard.

Come as you are—we’ll help you figure out the rest. 💙

💙 MEET THE OWNER — HEATHER 💙

1. What do you teach at BodyLift?
A little bit of everything! Strength, Pilates Reformer, yoga, mobility, cardio, and personal or small-group training.

Evening job: Director of After-Hours Athletic Operations — specializing in football, hockey, laundry, and yelling, “LET’S GO!”

2. How long have you been teaching?
16 years! It started with Stroller Strong after I had my first son and eventually grew into BodyLift Fitness.

3. Why did you become an instructor?
I grew up dancing and have always loved movement. As I got older, I realized exercise was just as important for my mental health as it was for my physical health—and I wanted to help others experience that, too.

4. Favorite workout?
Strength training 💪 But I believe we all need a combination of strength, cardio, and mobility. Walking my dog counts, right?

5. Favorite exercise?
Squats! And, in an unpopular opinion, I actually like burpees. 😂

6. Least favorite exercise?
BOX JUMPS. 😝 I have PTSD from all the bashed shins.

7. Favorite workout music?
’90s music all day long—if they’d let me. 😜

8. Favorite thing about BodyLift?
The people. 💙 We know you, notice when you’re gone, modify exercises when you need it, and celebrate when you get stronger.

9. Something you might not know about me?
Before changing careers, I was a prosthetic practitioner and ran two prosthetic offices.

10. Advice for someone nervous to try BodyLift?
Just walk through the door. You don’t need to be “in shape” first or keep up with anyone else. Everything can be modified. Show up, and we’ll meet you where you are. 💙

MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE. 💙

Movement isn’t just about burning calories, losing weight, or changing how your body looks.

It’s about how you feel.

Movement can help you:
✨ Build strength for everyday life
✨ Improve mobility and balance
✨ Support your joints and bones
✨ Reduce stiffness
✨ Boost your mood and energy
✨ Build confidence
✨ Stay independent as you age

And movement doesn’t have to be extreme to matter.

Lift some weights.
Take a walk.
Do yoga.
Get on the reformer.
Stretch.
Dance.
Move your body in a way that feels good today.

You don’t exercise because you hate your body.

You move because your body deserves to keep moving.

At BodyLift Fitness, we believe movement truly is medicine—for your body, your mind, and your future. 💙

Keep moving. Keep building. Keep showing up.

MovementMatters

🧠 Your jaw tension might be telling you more than you think.

When your body spends too much time in a sympathetic—or “fight-or-flight”—state, muscle tension tends to increase.

You may notice:
✨ Jaw clenching
✨ Shoulders creeping toward your ears
✨ Shallow breathing
✨ Neck tension
✨ Headaches
✨ Feeling like your body just can’t fully relax

And the more tension and discomfort we create, the more sensory input we send back to the nervous system—potentially keeping that cycle going.

One of my FAVORITE ways to encourage the opposite response—the parasympathetic “rest-and-calm” state—is through intentional breathing.

Try this with me:

🫁 Breathe in slowly through your nose for about 4 seconds.
Take 2 quick little breaths at the top.
Then slowly exhale for about 5 seconds.

As you breathe:
• Keep your lips gently together
• Let your teeth stay slightly apart—no clenching!
• Rest your tongue gently on the roof of your mouth
• Allow your shoulders to soften

Repeat for 5 rounds.

Then take a second and NOTICE.

How does your jaw feel?
Your shoulders?
Your breathing?
And most importantly…how does your mind feel?

Sometimes changing how we feel doesn’t start with pushing harder.

Sometimes it starts with teaching our body that it’s okay to slow down. 💙
