Hallie and Moe (Cindy Lytle’s Marvin Bay) made their WIHS Regional debut today in challenging conditions, with gusty winds and plenty of potentially spooky things blowing around. They rose to the occasion and held their own, with notable improvements in every trip. Very proud of them both!

We’re honored to call Olympic gold medalist Joe Fargis part of our extended barn family, and so grateful that he dedicates a day on his busy calendar each year to teach a clinic at our farm. This piece gives a great sense for Joe’s teaching philosophy, saying in part, “his influence as a mentor reflects the principles visible throughout his riding career: patience, attention to detail, consistency, and respect for the horse.”

Join us on Wednesday, November 11 for your chance to learn from a legend. Entry form in the comments!

🏇🇺🇸 Joe Fargis: A Lasting Legacy in American Show Jumping
🥇 Olympic champion, mentor, and lifelong horseman, Joe Fargis represents a tradition of horsemanship built on partnership, patience, and respect. 🐴❤️

Few names in American equestrian sport carry the history and distinction of Joe Fargis. 🇺🇸 An Olympic champion and respected horseman, Fargis has spent a lifetime in the saddle, building a legacy that extends far beyond medals and championship arenas. 🏆

His story is one of exceptional achievement, but it is also about something deeper: the relationship between horse and rider, thoughtful horsemanship, and passing knowledge to the next generation. ✨

🏆 A Champion on the World Stage

Fargis reached one of the defining moments of his career at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, riding the remarkable Touch of Class. 🐎

Together, the pair captured individual gold in show jumping 🥇, while Fargis also helped the United States secure team gold. 🇺🇸🥇 Their performance earned them an enduring place in American equestrian history.

Four years later, Fargis returned to the Olympic stage at the 1988 Seoul Games. Riding Mill Pearl, he contributed to another American podium finish, earning a team silver medal. 🥈

Behind those medals were years of preparation, discipline, and an extraordinary ability to develop genuine partnerships with horses. 🤝🐴

🌟 More Than a Rider

Great horsemanship is rarely measured by trophies alone. 🏆

Beyond his competitive achievements, Fargis became known for sharing his experience with other riders and contributing to the wider equestrian community. His influence as a mentor reflects the principles visible throughout his riding career: patience, attention to detail, consistency, and respect for the horse. ❤️🐎

For younger generations of equestrians, that example remains valuable. Success may capture headlines, but lasting excellence comes from the work performed every day—understanding the horse, refining the fundamentals, and remembering that progress is a partnership. 🌱

🐴 The Horse at the Heart of the Story

Fargis's career is inseparable from the horses who carried him onto the world's greatest stages.

Touch of Class became synonymous with his historic Los Angeles triumph 🥇, while Mill Pearl was his partner in the United States' silver-medal performance in Seoul. 🥈

These partnerships demonstrate what makes equestrian sport so special: every achievement belongs to a combination of horse and rider. 🏇💫

That relationship demands trust, communication, and mutual understanding. A rider brings experience, technique, and determination—but success ultimately depends upon two athletes working together as one. 🤝

🇺🇸 A Lifetime in the Saddle

The most compelling part of Joe Fargis's story may be its longevity. ⏳

Olympic medals represent extraordinary moments, but a lifetime devoted to horses creates a different kind of legacy. Through competition, teaching, and mentorship, Fargis has helped carry the traditions of horsemanship forward. 📚🐎

His career demonstrates that being a champion is not simply about standing on a podium. It is about what happens afterward—how experience is shared, how horses are treated, and how the next generation is encouraged to become better riders and horsemen. 🌟

❤️ A Lasting Legacy

Joe Fargis will always be remembered as an Olympic gold medalist. 🥇🇺🇸 Yet his broader legacy can be found in the values surrounding those victories:

🐴 Horsemanship • 🤝 Partnership • 💪 Perseverance • 🎓 Mentorship

From Los Angeles to Seoul and through the decades that followed, his journey illustrates what can happen when ambition is matched by respect for the horse.

Medals preserve moments in sporting history. 🏅 Great horsemanship leaves something even more enduring—knowledge passed from rider to rider, partnerships remembered long after the final round, and inspiration for those beginning their own journey through the horse. 🐎❤️✨

Earlier this week, Cindy did another clinic with the Academy of the Holy Cross Equestrian Team, which includes our riders Ella and Paulina. She gave them advice on how to optimize their performance at IEA shows, including what to do at the walk to get to know their assigned horse before a class starts. Good luck this season, ladies!
