Price Increase for Wednesdays coming effective 8/26/26.
Hey Folks, Nathan here with Neches Pines golf course. I’ve been meaning to post this sooner, but I’ve been struggling with actually making a decision on this for a few weeks now. But,
Due to rising costs, including but not limited to:
1. Fuel Costs
2. Parts (Especially golf cart repair and replacement costs due to players thinking that golf carts are UTVs)
3. Range Balls – If you are playing with range balls, you are STEALING. Range balls are rented to be used on the driving range ONLY! They are not to be used for playing, because you suck and don’t want to lose your golf balls.
4. Maintenance costs including repairs to the golf course and equipment
It has now been 18 months since I took over managing Neches Pines. In that time, I have not increased prices or rates, except for a $15 dollar increase on the Promotional Full Membership rate from last year to this year. But even with that increase, the membership rate is still lower than what was being charged before I took over managing the golf course. My goal has been to try to keep prices affordable for as many golfers as possible. However, I simply cannot continue to pay for everything. We still have so much work to do to return the golf course to a condition that resembles what it used to be, especially after all the neglect and damage it has been through the past few years.
Our current plan is to just increase the price for Wednesday’s. An increase to $23.09 is still incredibly low but will help to offset some of the costs of operating. Why $23.09? Because I wanted to keep it under $25 when including sales tax. Many have suggested that they would like to help. Some have even volunteered to come out for a workday, and we are considering that. But if you really want to help now, then help us by teaching our new golfers (and some of the old ones), the rules and etiquette expected when playing at a golf course. Things like not acting like an idiot while driving one of our golf carts. Or driving the carts through bushes, trees or mud holes. Or trying to drift sideways in them. Or playing bumper carts. Or having their idiot friends stand on the back to try to pop wheelies. Or making sharp turns down a hill and flipping them. At this point, I have lost almost all the patience I had to start with. However, with your help, we can teach those who are ignorant, and catch the idiots who are selfish and stupid, and turn them in to Diboll PD. Maybe then they can be prosecuted according to Texas Penal Code Sec. 28.03, and help them realize that they can learn something, even if it is the hard way. That being said, I know that mistakes and accidents can happen. So, if you happen to damage a cart and let us know, I will work with you on repairing it. Especially if it is a repair that my guys can do in house. It also could be just a wear and tear issue that you are not responsible for. On the other hand, If you are a non-self-respecting screw-up that tries to get away with accepting responsibility for their mistakes, when I catch you, rest assure that I will be pressing charges, and all the repairs will be made by the manufacturer, in which the costs will be extremely higher. Another way you can help immediately is to call the ProShop and report any players you see who are driving on the greens, the surrounds around the greens, on tee boxes, or any other area that they should not be. Everyone has a mobile phone now, so a picture or video, along with the number on the cart would help. You do not have to engage with the individuals. Just snap a photo and call us.
This is the plan for now. I will be making another post soon about options we have to help increase the pace of play, addressing the driving range and bathrooms, among other topics that we have been considering.
Thank you to all of you who have supported our efforts to revitalize this golf course. Although the work has been much more than what I expected, we will get through it and in the end, it will again be something that this City and this Community can be proud of.
Sincerely,
Nathan
