A track meet is a complicated thing. Well, it’s just a lot - in Mississippi it is 18 events for each gender, so basically 36 events. 6 field events, 4 relays, and 8 running events on the track. Basically.
Marking and timing those events requires thousands of dollars worth of equipment as well as people to work field events and folks who can work the camera, software, database, and websites. It ain’t simple, I’ll just say that.
There is a small percentage of track coaches who can put all of that together and manage & time a track meet, and Coach Daigle of DAT is one of them!
Part of my retirement plan is to run a timing company - hook up a trailer and drive around to time track meets. I’m not there yet, but I’m working on helping put the Pass High meets together again this year, and I’ll probably be working some meets with my friend Dave at Chipped Timing out of Nola. The pic below is the header for the meet program for tomorrow’s meet at The Pass.
It’s hard, but it’s the hard that makes it good!
See y’all at the track!
