2014–2015 DeWitt Girls Basketball Team – DHS Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee🏀
With a veteran core determined to make history, expectations were high for Coach Bill McCullen’s Panthers heading into the 2014–2015 season. Their only blemish came early against archrival and #1-ranked Haslett — but DeWitt avenged that loss to claim a share of the league title.
Ranked #4 in Class A, the Panthers stormed through the postseason, capturing the program’s first-ever Class A District Championship with a 53–38 win over Waverly. They kept rolling with a thrilling 48–43 overtime win over #5-ranked Ann Arbor Huron in the regional semifinal and went on to claim their first-ever Class A Regional title. A dominant 65–37 victory over Forest Hills Central sent DeWitt to the Final Four at the Breslin Center, where they topped Saginaw Heritage 44–36 to advance to the state championship game for the first time since 1977.
Facing #1-ranked and reigning champion Bloomfield Hills Marian — ranked 8th nationally by USA Today — the Panthers battled to the end, ultimately finishing runner-up. They tied the program record with 25 wins, including an 18-game winning streak, and defeated six league champions and seven district champions along the way.
The 2014–2015 Varsity Girls Basketball Team included: Alex Bilbo, Mackenzie Dawes, Grace George, Lilly George, Gabby Iacobellis, Jessah McManus, Maria Moss, Maddie Mowry, Abby Nakfoor, Shannon O’Connor, Cayce Palmer, Claudia Reid, Bailey Slater, Summer Ward, Manager Megan Brandell, Assistant Coaches Sam Dalman and Marcy Uyl, and Head Coach Bill McCullen.
They will be honored at the DHS Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, September 26. Each inductee will be recognized with a biography and photo on a plaque, mounted on the brick wall just west of the gymnasium doors in the athletic and performance corridor.
