Lots of you are getting stoked for cold weather kiting! That's super but please take a moment to read some advice from a wise man on cold weather kiting. Thanks!I

1. It gets dark early and quick! Once the sun is approaching the
horizon, it's time to pack it up as it will rapidly turn dark ( a lot
quicker than in the summer months )
2. Do not take unnecessary risks. The margin for error is a lot
smaller in the winter.
3. Never ever kite alone in the winter.
4. Don't let your hands get cold. If they're starting to feel a little
numb, your ability to pull your safety will be greatly hindered. Make
sure that you can pull your safety with the types of gloves you're
using (ie...mitts)
5. Don't let ice form on your de-power cleat or your safety release.
6. The wind is stronger than you think. Cold air is denser and 15
knots packs a lot more punch in 40F than it does in 80F.
7. No whale watching. Stay close to shore.
8. Keep your core warm and suit up warmer than you think you will
need. If you have to swim it in, cold water will wick away your body
temperature rapidly. Your core is probably 98.6F. Water is 45F around
now. Think convective cooling...
9. Make sure to end each session at a nearby bar that serves warm
chili and beer (ie Rams Head)
