Bottom of the 9th down 3, 2 outs with the bases loaded. On kind of a last minute decision the idea of making a run up the river to a bait that we had found a very big track at, but we didn’t have a camera on yet. So it was my last night and I was willing to roll the dice on a Hail Mary to see what happened. Much to my surprise after about an hour on stand, a young boar came in to the barrel. He was extremely curious about me and ended up walking to about 4’ checking me out. As the evening was winding down and it’s the time of day that every hunter knows all to well. The last 15 minutes of light on the last day. The thought began to creep into my mind that the big Alberta Bear I came for may elude me for another year. With 7 minutes left I heard the familiar sound of a bear working its way in. I refused to get my hopes up and just put it in the back of my mind trying to ignore it. It finally got to a point I knew I had to look, I saw a bear cautiously coming in behind some trees, I couldn’t tell for sure it was the bear I was looking for. He continued down the path and I knew that this was the bear I was here for. He walked into 17 yards and stood with his nose in the air quartering to me. Luckily, I made the decision to take my apex with me, so as he stood there trying to assess the situation I shouldered my 300prc, crosshairs on the shoulder and squeezed off. With 4 minutes of legal light left I notched my tag on my first Boone and Crockett Black Bear! Extremely grateful for the animal and the people I was lucky enough to spend camp with.

Wyoming turkey camp is in the books. The birds definitely acted a little different this year from last. We had opportunities and saw several gobblers. It just seemed like this was the Murphy’s law turkey hunt. Fence lines and circling birds can make for some frustrating hunts. Needless to say this gobbler almost ran down gun barrel. First turkey tag of the year is notched. I am extremely grateful for good friends, being able to live in the greatest country in the world and having my beautiful wife by my side wherever I end up! A special thanks to for the invite!
