Well, it’s official. The Maverick is totaled. It’s a shame, Ford built a good little truck, I often averaged over 50 miles per gallon in this thing.

Other than the couple of toys that I have had, this truck has taken me to the fewest number of NASCAR races of anything I’ve owned

Did the Detroit Grand Prix, Michigan international Speedway, Toledo Speedway, Berlin raceway, flat rock Speedway. And that’s it.

But let this be a lesson to all of you. do not drink and drive, and definitely did not get sh*tfaced drunk and ride your motorcycle at 120 miles an hour down the freeway. Not only will your life be in danger, but you will also endanger the lives of many others.

I was driving straight with cruise control set on an empty freeway and I was still hit at an incredible rate of speed by a guy who had the entire freeway to himself. that caused my little truck to start sliding sideways and pure talent behind the wheel was the only thing that kept my family safer than they were at that moment.

With that being said, when you know everything about cars, car shopping sucks

I’ve been around car dealership since I was 14 years old. I’ve washed cars, I’ve moved cars, i’ve prepped cars, I’ve been to international auto shows with cars, I’ve sold cars, I’ve got to work with preproduction cars that year only speculating may or may not be coming out. Hell, my sports have tires. They don’t have balls.

I hate new cars. there are too many sensors and “safety systems“ and you can’t turn them off. I’m the driver. I want to be in control of this car. I can’t stand these things.

No car, you don’t need to beep and chirp at me like a nuclear bomb is about to go off because somebody hit their brakes 500 feet in front of me. You don’t need to slam on the brakes when a squirrel runs out of the road 100 feet ahead.

I don’t need the lasers to tell me exactly where the middle of the lane is. I’ve driven hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of miles. I’ve driven pathetic cars like an old Ford focus and I’ve driven half million dollar supercars. I’ve driven purpose built race cars. I’m sorry, little computer, I know more than you.

Today was a typical Tuesday 25 years ago. I was sitting in my fourth grade classroom.

Not only was I young, but I was a very sheltered child. Even after what I would discover a few hours from now, I still have no understanding for what I would see on TV after my mother picked me up from school early. All I knew was I got to go home early and play with my Pokémon board game.

I had no idea that the events of that day would change my life all the way down to a molecular level
