Regal Soccer Training

Coming to an end of a great 8 weeks of programming where Regal was the official provider of soccer programming at The Boys and Girls Clubs of Detroit locations.

It has been a pleasure developing the skills and love of the game with so many kids. So many characters and funny moments. It has been great to work with Sophia and see her coach and do a fantastic job.

On Fri July 26 all clubs came together to do an 'Olympics' and we ran the soccer where the club we have worked with the most took home the gold! Also Xfinity was there and they provided new laptops to the over 250 kids there!

The Boys and Girls clubs do fantastic work providing programming far beyond sports and they have great facilities and we have loved being their program partner.

Different ages have different requirements but especially with younger players, focus on keep growing their strengths not leveling up their weaknesses to equal their strengths.

To compare to grades, weaknesses should be moved from a D level to a C level and thats enough. Strengths that are A- level shouldn't be ignored they should be worked on to become A and A+.

October 10th - World mental health day. Watching the Beckham documentary and seeing the footage brings back memories of how, at the time, I thought the reaction was way over the top. Looking back it looks terrible. I hope Hoddle feels moved to call and apologize for how he hung him out to dry and didn't protect him like a manager should have done.

Lots to work on still but these 3 goals by 2015 boys show great combinations and game intelligence.

1. Pass out of defensive third, dribble to break lines, 3 pass combination then goal

2. Great early pass with weaker foot splitting defense. Head up and good check back to lay on a pass for the goal

3. Strong run forward calling for the ball. Excellent weighted pass down the line. Check back and an early cross. Bit of luck with unbalanced defender missing the clearance but a calm finish.

Really happy with these moves and combinations as the game awareness and patterns of play are being established with this group.

What a week of camp for Regal soccer training! 24 players of the 2015 age group worked hard and had fun 9-3 all week. Today they were able to have a private audience with Crystal Palace. I've never heard this group so quiet as they were mesmerized seeing these players, they've seen on TV, in real life. Thank you to all at Palace that made this possible, what a special club that I've supported since young. Lastly thank you to all players and especially Eze who stayed an extra 20 minutes, signing everything for all the kids, really engaging with them and making each one feel special 🙏
