This letter is to President Obama and all the politicians and anti-gun activist in this country.
The problem isn’t guns and high capacity magazines. Open your eyes and look around. The problem is the average citizen cannot afford personal security 24hrs a day.
The average citizen that legally owns guns and high capacity magazines are not the problem. We own these guns for self defense, hunting, competition and in some cases, just to collect them. They are not stored out in the open. They are stored in fire proof safes.
We cannot afford personal security around us to protect ourselves or our families. We pay for you to have armed guards around you twenty-four hours a day along with your wife and children. The police are there to protect us, but there are not enough to have a response time of 1 minute or less. All the police can do, is arrive at the scene of the crime and take a report. They will not be able to stop the madman that is shooting at us right this second. We saw this with Sandy Hook. How long did it take for the police to arrive on the scene there? How many were already killed by the time they arrived?
I have nothing against our law enforcement agencies, except that they cannot be everywhere every minute of the day to protect us. Till you can afford to have a police officer stationed with a one minute or less response time in every neighborhood and shopping area, don’t think about taking our protection away.
The person who wants to hurt or kill someone will always find a way. If they cannot get access to a gun, they will find other ways. What about cars? What about those that take a motor vehicle and run it through the window of a restaurant and kill those inside? Are you going to ban vehicles next? What about the drunk driver that rams into a vehicle that has a whole family in it and he kills them? Are you going to ban alcohol next? Let’s not forget, tire irons, baseball bats, knives (which by the way, it’s the standard kitchen knives that are used not the military type). Stop and think about it.
I personally and those that I know don’t want to be in a situation where we need to protect ourselves just to realize we only have 1 bullet to use. Have you ever been where people were firing at you? I haven’t, but I have talked to others that have. 1 bullet does not do it. If the person is doped up, they just keep coming at you even if they have been shot. And what if there is more than 1 assailant? I would like to have a fighting chance.
Chicago has the highest crime rate and the toughest gun laws. What is wrong with that picture? The only ones with guns are the criminals. That’s what’s wrong. Look at the states that have the less gun laws. Crime rates are less and murders are less. This happens because the criminal’s and murder’s don’t know who has a gun and who doesn’t.
Maybe the answer then, is not to have
