These kids never cease to impress me. We work on technique all week long. And just when I’m convinced they’re not getting it—all of the sudden—it clicks. Like magic. They become assassins.

Dear Easton Family,

After careful consideration, we have decided that it is best for us to temporarily close all Easton academies. We will be closed for 10 days, effective immediately. In the interest of public health, it is important for our community to protect the most vulnerable members of the population by flattening the curve of infection in Colorado. We are working on a plan for memberships during this time, please bear with us! We promise to make good on any membership payments made while we are closed. We will have more updates for you later this afternoon.

Mike is 76 years old and EARNED his first stripe in Bjj last week. He comes to class every day—including 30 min early multiple times per week to work on his basics—all the moves we do in our warm up. This is the epitome of what “This is a black belt school” means. While martial arts are not for everyone—Easton is open to everyone. And we believe that everyone who walks through our doors has what it takes to become a black belt. I don’t care about your age, fitness or gender. When we step into this academy we are all the same. Everyone is a different type of food—and different types of foods have to cook at different temperatures for different lengths of time. If you show up, put in the work—get 1% better. You will progress on the path. It isn’t about comparing yourself to others, it’s about who you are today vs who you were yesterday. You are judged against yourself. We are beyond proud of all our students! Keep up the great work everyone!

Last official class teaching in today-and my heart is full. So honored everyone showed up and packed the mats. I appreciate every single one of you. Without students, I could not be a teacher. I do believe they are a far greater asset to me than I am to them. I believe I am different person than I was when I first walked through Easton's doors--and that growth would not have happened without my community, professors, coaches, mentors + most importantly the opportunity to serve others. And for that I am always grateful.

I start teaching classes at Janaury 13th. Please come visit! This isn't goodbye. I'll see you all in the near future! That much is certain. 🙂

Tinybro made me a proud “Uncle Jordan” today :) First jiujitsu tournament and first gold medal! I’m most proud of his good sportsmanship and mindset. He was very respectful and a classy winner. He just wanted to have fun. Didn’t care about a medal. Says a lot about his parents and coaches! Great work .wild.rumpus and the kids program coaches!

This is the speech I gave after comp class this past weekend. I've spent years now reading and trying to understand how to balance my own ego in all aspects of my life. One idea that's been formulating is connecting to a purpose larger than myself. I recently read "On Jiu Jitsu" by and was inspired to pass along some of his wisdom. He articulates what I've been feeling throughout my journey much better than I could. If you don't follow him, you should and read his books!

Special day today. These milestones don’t come often. So I’ve been taking it all in. Reflecting a lot and welling up with more love and gratitude than I can articulate. My biggest take away from today is how lucky I am to have so many people in my life that mean so much to me. Too many to post. So many more. I love you all.
