Queer Impact

Queer Impact A FREE Self Defense Class for the LGBTQI+ community. (Classes restart in June ✨🏳️‍🌈✨) Advanced class is at 11 a.m, and open classes are at Noon every Saturday.

The mission of Queer Impact is to provide the LGBT community of Denver (and beyond) with practical, real-world self defense skills FREE of charge. Everyone is welcome regardless of their fitness level, background, orientation, or previous martial art experience. Our instructors are all volunteers and have many decades of combined experience in a variety of disciplines. With special events such as

Drunken Self Defense, Drag Queen Kung Fu, Senior's Self Defense and more, we are devoted to making self defense practical and fun. You may join us anytime at Cheesman Park in Denver, on the west end just north of 9th. (Please contact Marcus Boswell at 720-252-6258 for more information). We meet every Saturday regardless of weather, holidays, and other circumstances. At least one instructor will always be present.

Our Founder and Executive Director, Obi Oberdier, starting teaching Martial Arts professionally in 2007. He founded Q***r Impact to be a FREE self defense class for the LGBTQI community, and has donated his time for over six years to make that dream a reality. He has black belts in Karate Kenpo and Jeet Kun Do, and he has trained in several other styles, including studying Shaolin Kung Fu in China. He is so excited for the Q***r Impact reboot!! We are excited to announce that Jim Leo will be returning to Q***r Impact as an Associate Instructor! Jim has already devoted more than six years to Q***r Impact!!! Jim originally started coming to Q***r Impact because his doctor recommended it as a martial arts group where he could be out of the closet. That is because, despite his tremendous talent and kind soul, Jim was picked on mercilessly for being different. In his old dojo and in his home, being different was punished. Despite all the challenges, Jim trained in in Ninjuitsu and Kung Fu for three decades, and he has now been training with Sensei James Faber in Jeet Kun Do for the last ten years. Truly, our community is lucky to have him, and we are so grateful that he will be donating his time to teach FREE self defense classes! ✨🥷✨ (Jim is pictured here helping out with our Drag Queen Self Defense Class ca. 2012)

We are excited to announce that we will have a full time instructor on Wednesday evenings. Please join us in welcoming Adam Fang to the Q***r Impact family!! Adam has black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Wush Shu, in addition to years of combined experience in other styles, such as Jiu Jiutsu and Shaolin Kung Fu. He is a proud member of the Pup Community in Denver, and he has a gentle spirit and an empathetic nature. Adam will be donating his time and energy to provide FREE self defense lessons!! 🏳️‍🌈🥷🏳️‍🌈
