🤠 Stock Show Through the Decades: 1966–1976

The late 1960s and early 1970s were a decade of growth, change, and big milestones for the National Western Stock Show.

🏗️ As agriculture evolved, so did the Stock Show. The National Western launched its first major expansion plan, leading to the opening of the Hall of Education in 1973 and setting the stage for future growth.
🐂 The livestock shows were growing, too. What started with just three cattle breeds expanded to include Charolais, Santa Gertrudis, and other breeds that reflected the changing cattle industry across the country.
🐴 By 1975, the Paint Horse Sale joined the Quarter Horse Sale, helping establish the National Western as one of the nation's premier destinations for horse shows.

An Evening of Dancing Horses, presented by 9NEWS, once again brought the magic to . Riders and horses moved in perfect harmony in a performance filled with beauty, precision, and tradition, all choreographed to Spinphony, the all-female quartet.

Please join us in welcoming Bruce Wagner as the new Chairman of the Board for the Western Stock Show Association!

Bruce Wagner, Chairman & CEO of Wagner Equipment Co., was elected Chairman during the 2026 WSSA Annual Meeting of the Members held at The Legacy. A longtime member of the Board of Directors, Bruce brings a deep commitment to agriculture, western heritage, education, and community impact as he steps into this leadership role.

We also congratulate the 2026 Board Officers:
• Bruce Wagner — Chairman of the Board
• Douglas L. Jones — Immediate Past Chairman
• Barth Witham — Vice Chairman
• J.J. Ament — Treasurer

Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer and a time to gather and share a good meal!

At the Stock Show, we’re proud to partner with the Colorado Beef Council to share a few quick tips for grilling up the best Colorado beef.

Memorial Day Grilling Tips

Get your beef from local ranchers for the best quality.
Choose well-marbled cuts like ribeye or 80/20 ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
Burgers should reach 160°F, while steaks hit their stride around 130–135°F for medium-rare.
Let the meat rest before serving for the juiciest bite.

This Memorial Day, cooking with Colorado Beef is an easy way to support local ranchers while putting something solid on the table. Happy Memorial Day!

At the 2026 Western Stock Show Association Annual Meeting of the Members, National Western members, leadership, and supporters gathered at The Legacy to reflect on another successful year of the National Western and look ahead to the future of the organization. 🤠

This year, alongside his family, we celebrated Douglas L. Jones, who concluded seven years as Chairman of the Board and nearly 35 years of service to the association. Doug’s leadership, vision, and dedication have helped shape National Western’s impact on agriculture, youth education, and western heritage for generations to come.

We’re grateful for his continued support as Immediate Past Chairman and excited to welcome Bruce Wagner as the new Chairman of the Board as we continue building momentum for the future of National Western.
