Zombies Claw Back, But Fall Just Short Against Night Train
The Zombies's effort to come back from down eight runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they fell 14-12 to Night Train on Sunday. The Zombies closed the gap by scoring on a double, and 4 singles.
Despite the loss, the Zombies did collect 10 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Night Rider had 11 hits on the way to victory.
Night Ranger got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Kris Hernandez singled to left field, and Jon Barrow hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Night Moves added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Shane Jones singled to center field, Keith Jepsen was struck by a pitch, Ben McLagan grounded out, and Kris Hernandez walked, each scoring one run.
The Zombies scored five runs on one hit in the top of the third inning. An error scored one run, Brian Grom drew a walk, scoring one run, Mike Merfeld drew a walk, scoring one run, and Anthony Pratt singled, scoring two runs.
Night Emissions scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kyle Paulson singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Kris Hernandez doubled, scoring three runs.
The Zombies scored seven runs on eight hits in the top of the seventh inning. Matt Bryant doubled, scoring two runs, Justin Lindell singled, scoring one run, Mike Pelzl singled, scoring one run, Brian Grom singled, scoring one run, and Anthony Pratt singled, scoring two runs.
Jacy Erling earned the win for Night Light. The hurler allowed seven hits and seven runs (six earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one. Colin Van Kampen took the loss for Zombies. He went six innings, giving up 13 runs (one earned) on 11 hits, striking out one and walking four. Ben McLagan opened the game for Night Shade. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking two.
Zombies piled up 10 hits in the game. Anthony Pratt led Zombies with four runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The first baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Anthony Pratt and Justin Lindell each collected two hits for Zombies. Rome Revis led Zombies with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game.
Night Stalker accumulated 11 hits in the game. Kris Hernandez provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led with six runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 3-for-3 on the day. Taylor Redman and Chris Dennis each collected multiple hits for 35 Night Light.
The umpire ejected someone from the Zombies at the end of the game, but he wasn't quite sure who.
Next up for Zombies is a game against Yetis on Sunday.
