Not all Pilates certifications are created equal — and that matters a lot, especially if you’re dealing with pain, injuries, hypermobility, scoliosis, disc issues, pregnancy/postpartum changes, or movement limitations.
A PMA-recognized training program means an instructor completed a comprehensive education rooted in anatomy, biomechanics, movement assessment, safety, and the actual Pilates method — not just learning choreography or how to coach an intense workout.
That education typically includes:
• Anatomy + movement science
• Hundreds of training hours
• Supervised teaching practice
• Modification training
• Contraindications + special populations
• Real understanding of the equipment and exercises
A good instructor should know why they’re giving you a movement, what muscles and joints are involved, what to avoid, and how to adapt the work to YOUR body.
Pilates can be life-changing when it’s taught well. Please avoid walking into a place that’s not what you were looking for!🤍
