The boys hit the mat last night for the first time this season facing Rock Canyon HS. After losing four seniors from last year’s lineup this team is looking to reload, and they may be on their way to doing so.
With five freshmen in the lineup, Coach Ramsey was looking to the seniors, Evan Maurice, Luke Mangan and Owen Hawkinson for some bonus points. Hawkinson ran into last year’s state qualifier from Rock Canyon. While Maurice and Mangan gave Valor a couple of pins after securing a tech fall.
Junior Will Bianco made quick work of his opponent, his offseason preparation is paying off early this season. Fellow junior Cole Beyer, coming off a football season where the Eagle made it to the semis, got a pin to add to the overall team points.
The dual against Rock Canyon saw five freshmen in the lineup with three of them landing pins. Garrett Beyer, Jake Mangan and Stone Ramsey went to work early and secured pins in the first period. Ramsey says, “This freshman group is loaded with talent. There are a few that didn’t wrestle in the varsity line up that we are really excited about. We are bringing them along as a lot of them just finished up football this past Saturday.”
Valor was handed a couple of forfeits at the two upper weights and got to watch Chase Fallis and Will Ward get their hands raised. “It was a great night! A lot to be excited about and still a lot that we have to work on. We are going to enjoy this win and tomorrow we are focused on Columbine.”
Next Wednesday and Thursday the team has a pair of home duals against Columbine and Lutheran. Ramsey said that next week's dual could see a few others in the line up as the football guys are back in the room. With a solid win, the Eagles are 1 - 0 to start the season.
