Ponderosa Backyard Kartway Update

Last Night, we received the final decision on the conditional-use request for Ponderosa Backyard Kartway.

Unfortunately, the go-kart portion of the proposal was denied, while the RC-only track was approved.

We want to thank EVERYONE who showed up, signed the petition, shared our posts, made phone calls, spoke at the hearing, and stood behind us throughout this process. ❤️🏁

We fought hard because we truly believe Ponderosa Backyard Kartway can be a positive place for families, racers, and our community. While this isn’t the outcome we hoped and prayed for, this isn’t necessarily the end.

We will take some time to review the decision and determine what options are available moving forward, including the possibility of an appeal.

🚨 PONDEROSA BACKYARD KARTWAY — WE NEED YOU! 🚨

If any of y’all want to see racing come back to the Ponderosa Backyard Kartway, we need everyone who can show up Monday at 6:00 PM at the Habersham County Courthouse!

Planning has denied the proposal, but it’s not over yet. The proposal still has to go before the Commissioner’s Meeting, and we’re going to need all the support we can get.

If you’ve raced with us, brought your family out, supported the track, or simply want to see this community track stay open — please come stand with us Monday night.

Every person, every voice, and every bit of support matters. ❤️🏁

🚨 PONDEROSA BACKYARD KARTWAY NEEDS YOU TOMORROW! 🚨

August 4,2026 @ 6PM!!

Tomorrow is a BIG day for Ponderosa Backyard Kartway, and it could very well be the meeting that helps determine the future of our track.

We need everyone who supports Ponderosa to SHOW UP AND SHOW OUT! 🏁❤️

We are asking our racers, parents, grandparents, friends, families, local businesses, and community members to come out and stand with us.

But we need more than people sitting in the room — if Ponderosa has made a difference for you or your family, please consider bringing a short speech and speaking up in support of the track.

Tell them WHY you support Ponderosa.

Tell them what this track means to your children and your family. Tell them about the friendships, sportsmanship, memories, and community that have been built here. Tell them why you believe our community deserves a safe place for families to enjoy good, clean fun together.

We have listened to the concerns that have been brought forward, and we are coming prepared with a plan to address them and show that Ponderosa Backyard Kartway can operate safely, responsibly, and respectfully.

Now we need our community behind us.

This isn’t just about a racetrack—it’s about preserving a place where families gather, lifelong friendships are made, children learn sportsmanship and responsibility, and our community has a safe, positive place to come together.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve listened to the concerns expressed by our neighbors and the Planning Department. Mitchell has worked hard to develop a plan to present to the planning department of Habersham county.

If you plan to attend, we encourage you to come prepared to speak during public comment. Share your own experiences and explain why you believe allowing this property to continue operating as a family-oriented kart track would benefit our community.

* The positive impact it has on children and youth by promoting sportsmanship, responsibility, and healthy recreation.

📢 COMMUNITY SUPPORT NEEDED FOR PONDEROSA BACKYARD KARTWAY 📢

First, we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has signed the petition, shared their stories, and shown support for Ponderosa Backyard Kartway. We have collected over 200 signatures along with countless comments explaining why this track is important to our community.

The overwhelming message has been about our youth and families. Supporters have shared how the track provides a positive environment for kids, teaches responsibility, mechanical skills, sportsmanship, stewardship, and keeps young people engaged in something productive. Many families travel over two hours just to spend time together at the track because of the family atmosphere and sense of community it provides.

The next Habersham County Commissioners meeting is July 7th, and we need your help.

If you support the reopening of Ponderosa Backyard Kartway, please make plans to attend and show your support. A strong turnout will help demonstrate just how much this track means to the families, youth, racers, and community members who benefit from it.

Whether you’ve raced here, brought your children here, made memories here, or simply believe in providing positive opportunities for our youth, your presence matters.
