Long post ahead, but man what a weekend!
First off, Delta Raceway crushed it this whole weekend. The track was beyond phenomenal. Deep ruts, fast lines, big jumps, and that new section fits the track perfectly.
Josh went 1-1 on the Junior track. He has been able to use this track to really dial some skills in and try different things on the main track.
Night series racing came around and he really started to shine. He finished 2nd in the 50cc sr class and was pushing hard to find a way to catch the leader. It has been Joshs 1 and only goal in the night series to beat that rider. The 50cc open class came and Josh was pumped. 1st lap he was behind by a decent gap. But every lap that gap got smaller and smaller, Josh was on RAILS! Josh was finally able to make the pass on the last lap and get his goal to beat that specific rider. Josh got off the track grinning ear to ear and nearly crying because he was so happy.
Today for the D12/Buckeye Mashup racing was on another level again.
Moto 1 of 50cc sr, Josh came out of the holeshot around midpack of 26 riders and raced his was to 5th quickly. He held the position for a while but went down HARD just before the flag stand. Him and the bike both went flipping and the bike landed on top of him with the rear wheel and sprocket spinning inches from his face. I (dad) was on the opposite side of the track but another SG moto dad, Aaron Morgan, went sprinting to Josh. I have never seen anyone move that fast lol so special thanks to him. He lost a ton of spots and fell to 13th rode his way back to 11th to finish.
Moto 1 of 50cc open Josh came out swinging. Another okay start, probably around 10th out of 33, but raced his way to 2nd where he finished the moto.
Moto 2 of 50cc sr was all around a good race. He was hitting lines and jump but most importantly, kept it on 2 wheels the whole time. He finished 6th in the moto for a 7th overall finish.
Moto 2 of 50cc open was a doozy. He got a great start and was in top 5 in the first corner but leaned hard into a rut and fell, somehow not getting hit by another rider. Once he got up he was in 32nd place. I know we say this often, but we have never seen Josh ride like this ever (aside from the falls lol) He went down another 3 times in the 4 lap moto and somehow was still able to manage an 8th place finish for a 5th overall in the class.
65cc jr our only expectation are for him to go out, learn and try something new. Obviously fight for postions but not putting pressure to be on top.....yet. Our and his goal for Buckeye series was somewhere in the 20s, ideally above 25. He went out and crushed it with a 14th overall finish.
