Our Aquatics After-School Program and Endless Summer Swim & Surf Camps offers at-risk youth the opportunity to receive professional swimming lessons, surfing instruction, boating safety education, and a deeply enriching mentorship experience. StreetWaves serves as a transformational catalyst for personal growth that expands the perspective and prospects of youth whose socio-economic and cultural d
ifferences may have excluded them from our swimming pools, shoreline and ocean. African American children ages 5-14 are 5.5 times more likely to drown each year compared to white children. These disparities are associated with a lack of basic swim skills in minority populations partially due to our country’s historical racial segregation. Among all children ages 14 and under, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional death. StreetWaves teaches swimming and boating safety because they are crucial life-saving skills. We teach surfing because it's an empowering experience. We share environmental and maritime studies to connect youth with our ocean and expose them to nautical career opportunities. We believe that the majesty of the sea and the mastery of the ocean cultivates essential life-skills and supports the development of character, commitment, courage and confidence.
