Make their escape cost them.

From knee on belly, I don’t need to chase the finish immediately. I can establish my base, use pressure, shut down their ability to get underneath my leg, and let their escape attempts do some of the work for me.

Once they’re tired and the position is secure, we can start progressing toward the finish.

Don’t fight their defense. Use it.

When someone starts defending the choke, their reaction tells you where the next opening is.

If they pull the hand in, we can transition to the other attack. If they stay committed to controlling the choking hand, we can use that commitment to create the space we need underneath the chin.

That’s the idea behind these systems: attack → reaction → next attack.

When they start coming up for the dogfight, don’t keep fighting the same battle.

If their leg is occupied, the backstep can be right there.

Recognize the reaction and use it.

Your throw starts with your feet.

Before I ever try to throw, I need to create the right angle and get my hips into position.

Make the triangle.
Close the base.
Bring the hip in.

Get the entry right and the rest of the throw gets a whole lot easier.

Team Pure Pressure.

What a night.

We came up a little short in the finals, but I couldn’t be prouder of this group.

Over the last few weeks these guys showed up, bought into some different ideas, helped each other get better, did their homework, and trusted me enough to let me experiment with how we prepared.

Last night we got to put it to the test.

We got some submissions. We had some wars. We made some mistakes. We solved some problems. And we went toe-to-toe with a damn good team in the finals.

More importantly, we had an absolute blast doing it.

Thank you to Top Level Pro for having us and putting on such a fun event, and thank you to everyone who helped these guys get ready.

First Black Anvil rashguard is officially on the mats.

Seeing something that started as an idea actually become real never gets old.

Still testing everything, making adjustments, and figuring out what we want the Black Anvil gear line to become — but I’m really happy with how this first one came out.

Black Anvil gear is available through the TapX team store. Link in bio.

What goes up… must come down. 😂

Jiu Jitsu has a funny way of keeping you humble.

⚒️ Built Under Pressure.

08/25/2026

If one foot is heavy, the other one is usually light.

In sit-up guard, you don’t always have to force the off-balance you originally wanted. Pay attention to where your opponent is putting their weight. If they commit their weight to one foot, the other foot becomes easier to move.

That’s where you have to get used to playing around with the position—feel where the weight is, recognize what becomes available, and use the reaction they give you.

Built Under Pressure.

08/22/2026

Don’t chase the leg. Make them bring it to you.
A small step backward creates the reaction. Once the foot comes forward, the takedown is there.
Create reactions. Don’t force techniques.
