Best of luck to our friend and latest blue belt . Mark received his blue belt early last week and departed the midwest on Thursday to begin the next chapter of his life down in Austin.

We're sad to see him go but are excited to see what he'll do down in Texas. Austin will have plenty of jiu-jitsu for him to choose from and we are confident he'll fit right in.

As coaches and owners of our academy we are always working to support our students to achieve their goals on the mats.

It can be difficult to prioritize our own development, but we have learned from one of the best, our professor , that leading from the front can accomplish both objectives.

We took a last minute road trip to Columbus, Ohio for the IBJJF Open this past weekend to keep up with our plan to compete at least once a month until Worlds.

I went 3-1, taking silver in Master 3 Light Weight and gold in Master 3 Open Class. I finished my finals match in the Open with a mounted triangle, one of my all time favorites.

Tom dropped from Master 4 to Master 2 to get a match in Medium Heavy and took gold. Unfortunately, he injured himself in the Open Class semi-final and could not continue.

It's all practice leading us to Master Worlds in 4 months. I know the gaps I need to work on and Tom is focused on healing his knee! Regardless, we love the life we've found ourselves in and helping our team get a little better every day!

This past week was a big one for two of our members, who leveled up their belts.

After 6 years of training (and many vacations 😁) Cohen received his purple belt. As a police officer, he knows the importance of training beyond sport jiu-jitsu so that he can do his job better and stay calm and in control of challenging situations.

received his blue belt after 2.5 years of training and a successful competition record. He's not one to shy away from challenging himself, and later that same day he was quick to sign up for his first blue belt competition.

The journey of each student is unique and we are so proud of what these two have accomplished and what lies ahead of them as they continue to develop their jiu-jitsu skills.

These kids should be proud! We had 4 little monsters compete today; putting their hearts, sweat and some tears on the mats.

And 3rd place overall team in gi and no gi out of 10. A new title for our team!

The victories were sweet but the camaraderie, support and friendships they continue to build as a team are even sweeter.

Still buzzing from the weekend where we sent a small team of 4 to one of the larger tournaments in Wisconsin, won 19 matches losing only 3, taking 4 Golds and placing 5th overall as a team!
