Caught this fish Saturday night at Arcadia Lake… who would’ve ever thought that?! I know I wouldn’t! 😂 But I did, and I’ve got witnesses that can put me on the spot!
Up until now, my biggest blue catfish in Oklahoma waters was 40 pounds. I’ve caught several of those out at Arcadia in my 20+ years of fishing this lake. I even caught a 40 this year, and just 2 months ago I put a buddy on a 46 and a 33.
For the past 9 years, though, I’ve been trying to break that 40 pound mark.
Saturday night, it finally happened—and almost instantly.
I had a pattern figured out. We’d been catching a lot of 8–17 pound fish, so Saturday night I thought, “I’m gonna go try something different.” Same lake, different area.
My hunch was right.
I fished for about 25 minutes before hooking into an unbelievably big Arcadia Lake monster. 🤯
I caught it running a Santee rig with rattles, using jones crappie pro shop dragging weights to help keep me from getting hung up as I dragged my bait across the bottom.
And I was running a Creek Bank Bait Tanks 30-gallon bait tank to keep my bait alive all day while watching my Sooners get beat. 😂
I’ve had a boat for 3 months now and have slowly been working on getting it set up so I can start guiding—a lifetime dream of mine that I never thought would actually happen.
I completely gave up on that dream until about 3 years ago. Then I started building toward it in silence… right up until the very end.
A lot of people will probably think, “He got a boat, so now he’s a guide.”
Actually, it was the opposite.
I got a boat so I could guide.
You can’t guide from the bank very well. 😂
But the truth is, I didn’t need a boat to catch fish. I’ve caught just as many from the bank.
I wanted the boat so I could take y’all with me.
I’ve caught a lot of fish over the years. Now it’s time for y’all to catch yours.
Memories are made on the water, because you never know what’s lurking underneath it.
