Wondering what to do if you come across a newborn fawn?! See below!

⚠️WARNING⚠️Cuteness overload! 👀 Look who we spotted hiding at Prairie Park 🦌 FUN FACT: Newborn fawns are alone and separated from the doe by design. This behavior allows fawns to hide from predators before the fawns are developed enough to outrun them. Approaching or handling newborn fawns increases their stress level and threatens their survival. People often pick up fawns that are alone, thinking they need help, and bring them to local wildlife agencies for care. Although well-intentioned, removing a fawn from its hiding place separates it from the doe and severely changes the animal’s life! So, if you see any of our newborn fawn friends in your parks, PLEASE LEAVE THEM ALONE! 😊 Learn more at https://deer.wildlifeillinois.org/deer-ecology/reproduction/

Volunteer this Saturday, June 4, 9-11 am, in Prairie Park and help DPD staff tackle invasive species, Dame's Rocket! This prolific and pesky purple flower may be pretty, but it does MAJOR damage to our native plants, choking them out and taking over. Help us eradicate this plant from one of our most beloved community parks!

All you environmental enthusiasts out there, WE NEED YOUR HELP this Saturday, June 4! 🌸 We need to pull together for our annual Dame's Rocket Debacle at Prairie Park from 9-11 am, where we will be tackling this pesky purple invasive.
