Today, FIT is excited to share the transformative experience of our client, Dan. Dan’s story exemplifies the power of our supportive community and a varied training approach.
In his own words, Dan reflects on his initial motivation, the benefits of high-intensity workouts, and the sense of camaraderie he found within FIT.
1. Initial Motivation:
- What inspired you to choose Fit Functional Intense Training for your fitness journey, and what were your initial goals when you started with us?
I was looking for a new gym and met Seth at the Lilac festival in Defiance. He had his gym open and was willing to talk about the routine and what he and his plan were about. I was initially drawn to the variety of activities and that the exercises were varied and non-traditional.
My initial goals were to go from very little activity to being in better shape. I wanted to lose weight, get stronger while looking and feeling better.
2. Functional Training Experience:
- How has the focus on functional training impacted your overall fitness and daily life? Can you provide specific examples of activities that have become easier for you?
The functional training has had a positive impact on my overall fitness and daily life. I’ve noticed that even simple things like climbing stairs, yard work, or lifting things have become easier. In addition, my clothes have fit better and I’ve lost weight and gone down clothes sizes.
3. High-Intensity Workouts:
- How do you feel during and after our high-intensity workouts? What benefits have you noticed from incorporating HIIT into your training routine?
The overall feel during the workouts is being physically challenged. The benefit of the program is that you can go at your own pace during the individual exercises and there are alternate versions to either increase or decrease the intensity. Afterwards, there is a sense of accomplishment and, as you progress, more energy during your day.
The HIIT program is my primary training tool. I have, however, noticed that by using this program, I’ve been able to also walk farther and faster on my off-days and can work longer on activities around the house.
4. Progress and Results:
- Can you share any measurable results or personal achievements you've experienced since joining our gym? How have these results influenced your motivation and commitment?
The two biggest measurable achievements I’ve seen are an overall reduction in my weight and the corresponding drop in my clothes sizes. I’ve lost about 30 pounds in the year that I’ve been doing the HIIT training and dropped two waist sizes. These have helped me want to continue with the program and maintain the results.
5. Community and Support:
- How would you describe the sense of community at Fit Functional Intense Training? In what ways have the staff and fellow members supported you in reaching your fitness goals?
Other than the results, Seth and the people at FIT are probably the best part of the program. In most cases, you start to see the same people while at the gym. The conversations and support have been a big reason for wanting to go back every time. Whether it be a quick hello or good morning or if someone sees that you are working hard or struggling and offers words of encouragement, it’s a positive and supportive environment.
6. Training Variety:
- What aspects of our training programs do you enjoy the most? Are there specific workouts or exercises that you find particularly effective or enjoyable?
The variety of the exercises was what initially drew me to the program, and the variety is what makes me want to keep coming back. There are, of course, repeated activities, but they are mixed in with new exercises and combinations to make it new and challenging for every class. In fact, there is a new activity at almost every class. This keeps everything feeling fresh. In addition, the variety targets different muscle groups and body goals such as strength, core, cardio, or balance, giving a whole-body experience.
I’ve found that individual strength exercises combined with the cardio exercises give me a combination of activities that keeps me motivated throughout the routine.
7. Personal Transformation:
- In what ways have your physical and mental health improved since joining our gym? How has your confidence changed as a result of your training?
I’ve noticed the changes in both my physical and mental health. Physically, I’m in better overall shape. I’m stronger and can approach activities with the amount of intensity that I want to rather than just having to get through the session, like when I started. Mentally, I’ve noticed a subtle increase in my overall confidence. I’m happier with how I look and I feel better about myself. It reminds me of how I looked and felt when I was younger.
8. Recommendations and Final Thoughts:
- What would you say to someone considering joining Fit Functional Intense Training? Is there anything else you would like to add about your experience?
If someone was considering joining, I would recommend it for both the beginner and for the more experienced person. The combination of activities and the ability to increase or decrease the intensity of exercises offers an opportunity for all fitness levels. Add this flexibility to the supportive staff and friendly fellow gym-goers, and you have a great combination. It’s hard work, but the results and overall experience have been positive for me.
