A derby is an extended format jumper course, at least 1000m long, in which approximately 50% of the jumps are natural style obstacles, weaving in and out of the arena.

Have you submitted your entry yet? If you're on the fence (pun fully intended)...

🌲🐴 What can you expect from a jumper derby course? 🐎⭐

Our course is a combination of traditional showjumping obstacles with some natural elements. We do have you jumping out of the arena, but think more "foxhunt" than "fancy XC course." We have stacks of logs, a graub, a bank, a mound, but don't have any benches, tables, or wagons.

Jumper derbies are an opportunity for showjumpers to show off their horse's ability to manage themselves out of the arena and over varied terrain, but we'll leave those more technical XC combinations to our eventer friends πŸ˜‰

A jumper derby is a timed event, but it's a bit more complicated than that...we run the Derby using a Table 2.b format. That means you have a round of anywhere from 12-18 (ish) jumps on a course that goes in an out of the arena, integrating traditional showjumping obstacles with natural elements, and your goal here is to be timely (not fast) and CLEAR. If you ride clear, you remain in the arena and the judge will give you another whistle staring that you are clear to start your jump off.

Your jump off is about speed. It will be a shorter course that is only in the arena. The goal here is to be speedy and clear. Fastest jump-off time wins! Don't worry, though, you can still place if you don't make the jump-off. Then your first round time and faults will be taken into account for placings.

EDIT to add: we often set our courses on the softer side, meaning not all jumps are set at the max height of the class.

Both in arena and out of arena are open for schooling on Friday the 21st!

We love having you all! Entries are trickling in, and we appreciate your kind words. This year, we're hoping to have our social calendar better communicated before the event so everyone knows what will be available. We love hanging out with everyone on Friday night!πŸ’›πŸ’™

Hi folks- as the Derby entries start to roll in, I want to clarify...if you are doing a "ticketed" schooling round during the show, it cannot be at your competition height. It must be in the height division BELOW your competition height. (In open schooling on Friday, you can school whatever height you want over the jumps!)

If you want to do 2 rounds of the same division, the first will be your judged round and the second will be non-judged.

A great explanation of the 2(a) and 2(b) jumper tables! The Derby is run under Table II, Sec 2(b).
In the past, since the Derby has an extended course, even folks who don't make it to the jump off phase have placed on their normal round time + faults score, so even if someone gets a rail (or even a stop), you're still in the game!

Entries for the Derby open on July 1st! We have made a few changes to schooling this year, and will also be offering a 3'6" class this year! We are also limiting competition rounds to 2 divisions per horse in order to accommodate changes to schooling.

In lieu of ticketed schooling rounds, we will now offer clear round schooling rounds concurrently with the show at a height division below your competing height. For example, if you are competing at the 2'3" and 2'6" divisions, you are permitted to sign up for a 2' non-judged schooling round. If you are competing at the 3'3" division, you could sign up for a 3' schooling round. For 2' competitors, you will be allowed to sign up for a 2' schooling round since there is no lower division to school in.

Why the change? Our ticketed schooling rounds were underutilized, and the feedback we got was that it felt like it didn't work for some of our haul-ins who didn't have the ability to haul in for open schooling on Friday.

We can barely wait for one of our favorite days of the year!

We've been quiet this winter- but we've still been making plans!

We're making a few fun changes this year...

NEW ribbons πŸ†: no explanation needed! We just decided year 4 needs a refresh. They're real pretty 😍

NEW SCHOOLING: We will be keeping Friday open schooling as is, but Saturday morning schooling rounds have always been underutilized...

*No more Saturday AM ticketed schooling.

*REPLACED with clear round schooling run concurrently with show rounds. How will this work? If desired, you are permitted to sign up for a schooling round one height division lower than your competition rounds (exception being 2', as there is nothing lower. 2' only competitors are permitted to school at 2'). This will be a "clear round," meaning you are not competing, just schooling, in that division.

As per usual, we understand that the rules of such a specific event like jumper derbies can be new for folks. Always feel free to ask show management for clarification! We want everyone to have a great time.
